Hey,
i’m running your Siteorigin PageBuilder and it’s Widgets Bundle on several websites. On all of them the Widgets Bundle Plugin breaks the WordPress Featured Image on Pages. As soon as i deactivate your plugin, i can set new Featured Images and then reactivate it. That’s kind of frustrating. Could you guys take a look into this?
Thanks in advance and best regards,
Christian
Hi Christian,
I’m not able to replicate this issue. I’m trying to find similar reports but can’t seem to find any either. :(
At this stage, I suspect it’s likely a complicated plugin conflict occurring. Can you please enable the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle and then run a plugin conflict test?
For reference, it’s: Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.
If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.
Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.
If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.
Hi Alex,
thanks for your reply. I already did disable all other plugins, that didn’t help. But your hint at the theme provided some insight. Actually the button comes back, when i switch from my custom theme to twentysixteen. But: i can strip all my code from the theme, literally just leaving an empty index.php and style.css – and the button still disappears. So that would mean, there’s none of my code interfering in a bad way, but maybe some of twentysixteen’s in a good way? Sounds dumb, i know.
For your overview:
– WordPress 4.6.1 german
– custom theme
– Page Builder by SiteOrigin 2.4.18
– SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle 1.7.2
Best,
Christian
Hi Christian,
Sorry for the delay.
Could you send me a copy of your theme so I can take a quick look over it? Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as teknik.io. If you would like to keep this link private from other users, just select “Private Reply” on the bottom right of the comment box.
Hey Alex,
i could, but there’s no use in it. I removed every single bit of code, as i wrote, so it can’t be a matter of the theme.
Christian
Hi Christian,
I’m unable to replicate the issue you’re describing. Anything (regardless of how small or unimportant) that could help me to replicate the described issue will allow me to work towards resolving it. Can you please send me a copy of your custom theme?
Also, to clarify, what button are you referring too? You stated a button wasn’t appearing but the initial issue was related to the featured image, not a button so I’m unsure what button you’re talking about.
Hey,
just uploaded the theme at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3556910/steps_theme.zip. Feel free to take a look around.
The button i was referring to ist the link for uploading/setting a featured image, placed at the right bottom of an edit page in the backend – e.g. wp-admin/post.php?post=17&action=edit. Does that clarify it?
Thanks,
Christian
Hi Christian,
Uh. Wait, hang on. Are you sure this is related to the Widgets Bundle? The issue you’ve described sounds like you haven’t added support for featured images – it’s not enabled by default.
Yes, i have activated support for featured images. Because as soon as i deactivate Widgets Bundle, the Button shows up again.
Hi Christian,
How did you activate it? There’s nothing in the theme you provided that will add support for featured images.
Please try adding support for featured images to see if this resolves this issue.
With an mu-plugin. If got a bunch of those ready for usage in my projects. On this very project, there is only this one plugin active. You can see this one here: http://pastebin.com/pBryNMMs
Hi Christian,
Thanks. I’m not having an issue with using that plugin and the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle – as in the featured image is visible for me. I suspect it may be due to the load order of MU Plugins. Could you please try copying the contents of that plugin to your themes functions.php to see if that resolves the issue? I know it shouldn’t be required but I’m trying to rule that out.
Just tried that, didn’t help. I’m starting to think, that it must have some other reason than your plugin. I’d fully understand, if you had to save your time.
Hi Christian,
Just writing to see if you managed to figure this issue out. If not, I can take another look.
Hi Alex,
i did, actually. I tried adding the registration of featured-images support in a plugin and it worked. Than i checked my theme-files for actually being loaded and they all were. Last i checked the priorities of the hooks and changing my after_setup_theme from priority 10 to 20 solved the problem. I have no idea why, but i’ll happily accept it.
Best,
Christian
Hi Christian,
Odd stuff. Glad you worked it out mate. :)
Thanks! Your support is impressive, by the way ;-)
