That’s exactly what I want it to do: insert the entire content of one of my posts. It won’t do that. It gives me a dropdown option of either the post title or the post featured image. (Which, those, yes, it will insert.) Well, no, that’s not what I want.
Post Loop also does not meet my needs. That, too, inserts a Loop (though, yes, it can be just a single post) but only of the Featured Image; not the actual content.
Am I doing something wrong? Is my theme not compatible? Am I simply not able to achieve the outcome which I desire? Any guidance on this would be appreciated.

To clarify, the Post Content widget is only designed to work with the content post, not other posts.
I’m not 100% sure on your desired result, but based on what you stated I would recommend trying/using Insert Pages.
What I want it to do is display the actual text of the post. As I said, it will display the headline or the featured image. I want it to display the text. Can it do that?

The Insert Pages plugin will only insert the content of the post (as in, no featured image).
Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at the post loop? I might be able to spot why it’s only outputting the featured content.

Regardless, as mentioned the post content widget doesn’t do what you’re after. It will only insert data from the current post, not any other posts. Based on your setup, I would use the aforementioned Insert Pages plugin. You’ll need to manually add the post title and featured image (if you decide to use one) but it’ll allow you to accomplish what you’re trying to do.
Please add the Insert Pages shortcode to a SiteOrigin Editor widget with Automatically add Paragraphs disabled.
