siteorigin Visual tab has nothing there again

I had this problem the other day but put in an exception into my browser and it was working again, now its happened again.

I can see the page builder tab and text tab has content as it normally would but the visual tab content has disappeared.

Yes I did do an update this morning of site origin is it something to do with this, not sure why I keep having this issue but it’s slowing my progress to finishing my website.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Lorrie,

To clarify, you’re seeing the regular page builder interface but if you view the visual tab nothing is present? If this is the case, the issue here is that you’re using the revert to editor button. This shouldn’t be done unless you plan on not using page builder on this page anymore as the revert to editor reverts the page to a non-page builder state will remove the page builder structure.

If this isn’t the case, could you please clarify? A screenshot of the error would be very appreciated. Hm, it’s possible this could be a plugin conflict test so I would also recommend giving that a try.

Start by disabling disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and then check to see if this fixes the issue. You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

Hi I know about the revert to editor but it’s not that.

I have had it twice the first time after to selected to update and took a very long time to try to update the server after leaving it for 10 minutes I refreshed the screen this is when the problem showed up, I had tried all sorts of things but only thing that worked was putting in an exception on our domain in the browser settings to stop it from happening.

I don’t remember what happened the second time but it self-righted after about half a day as I swapped to internet explorer to continue working on the site which does not experience these problems

If I disable the plugin would the content disappear?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Lorrie,

Hm, to be honest at this stage I’m not too sure what the actual issue is. :( To clarify, is this a constant issue or is it sporadic? If it’s the latter, are you able to replicate this issue in any reliable manner?

No. Your content will remain. Please don’t save any page builder powered page while the plugin is disabled as it may lead to data loss (of the page builder data for that page).

Please revise as there is not ability to re-edit –

I also have the same results where the widget’s text editor does not show the tools nor content is displayed while in the Visual Editor. You have to save that page then go back in. The Visual Editor is now available along with content.

In contrast, the SiteOrigin’s editor works perfectly. My question is:

    • Why are there both editors, Black Studio and SiteOrigin?
    • Should we have the option to select SiteOrigin’s text editor to be placed in the Recommended Widget area or any other widget for that matter?

      Hi, I Work Here

      Hi Wireb,

Why are there both editors, Black Studio and SiteOrigin?
SiteOrigin Page Builder will allow you to use any widget. That’s why it’s there. Why it’s still showing is our editor is still present is that w e won’t exclude a widget if we have a version of it. It’s up to the user to decide if they want to use our widget or a different widget.

Should we have the option to select SiteOrigin’s text editor to be placed in the Recommended Widget area or any other widget for that matter?
Recommended widgets is an automatically generated list of widgets that you can’t really actually control. It’s meant mainly for third party widgets that don’t interface with our Widgets Framework. This is why none of the standard WordPress widgets are visible there. Based on your comment I think a good option would be the ability to either favorite a widget (so you can easily refer to them) or have an option of seeing your most used widgets.

    Hi Alex,

Revisiting and reading the post, I should have started a new thread before posting about “Why are there both editors, Black Studio and SiteOrigin?”

I still did not understand why was yet another text editor built.

    • Is there an advantage over another? /li>
    • Was Black Studio built prior to Siteorigin’s text editor?
    • Why did Siteorigin spent the time on creating another text editor when Siteorigin working and endorses Black Studio?

About the differences I have discovered (which goes back to Lorrie’s question):

    • Siteorigin’s text editor faithfully provided the tools for the TnyMCE IDE whereas Black Studio widget does not
    • The Black Studio widget almost without exception, does not present the TnyMCE tools. You will first have insert the Black Studio widget, then save the page, the re-edit
    • I suggest this topic of, Why are there 2 editors, be moved to a new thread. In our news gathering workshops, often this question arises.

      Hi, I Work Here

      Hi Wireb,

To clarify further, Black Studio TinyMCE Widget is a third party plugin. Neither are bundled directly with SiteOrgin Page builder, but the SiteOrigin Editor is included in our Widgets Bundle so it’s very likely you’re going to have it already.

Is there an advantage over another?
We can provide support for our editor, but not the Black Studio widget.
The SiteOrigin Editor is included in a plugin you’re likely going to use anyway, so the SiteOrigin Editor reduces the need for anotehr plugin.

Was Black Studio built prior to Siteorigin’s text editor?
Yes. I’m fairly certain that Black Studio was built before SiteOrgin Page Builder, so it’s possible it precedes the main plugin also.

Why did Siteorigin spent the time on creating another text editor when Siteorigin working and endorses Black Studio?
It took very little time and effort on our part to create one as WordPress makes replicating their editor very easy these days. It made sense to include an editor widget as not everyone is aware of Black Studio’s plugin.

Siteorigin’s text editor faithfully provided the tools for the TnyMCE IDE whereas Black Studio widget does not
I would say this is due to different aims. I cannot speak for Black Studio, but our intention is to provide the direct version of the standard WordPress Editor.

The Black Studio widget almost without exception, does not present the TnyMCE tools. You will first have insert the Black Studio widget, then save the page, the re-edit
If you’re having issues with the widget I would recommend contacting the developers to report this issue.

can you not just have one plugin without the other, in case of any conflicts with other plugins?

    • 8 years, 28 days ago Alex S
      Hi, I Work Here

      Hi Lorrie,

As mentioned, there is absolutely nothing forcing you to use any of the plugins mentioned in combination with SiteOrigin Page Builder. If you don’t want to use Black Studio Tiny MCE widget in favor of the SiteOrigin Editor, that’s fine. If you don’t want to use the SiteOrigin Editor in favor of Tiny MCE Widget, that’s fine.

To clarify further: Black Studio doesn’t require the SiteOrgin Widgets Bundle but chances are you’re going to use that plugin regardless.

      Hi, I Work Here

      Hi Lorrie,

Preface: I would recommend reading over my replies to WireB for a more in depth reply.

Basically, they’re both allow you to use the WordPress editor as a widget and they’re basically the same thing. There’s no real differences between the two outside of what wireb briefly outlined.

      Hi, I Work Here

      Hi Lorrie,

Ah, sorry – I misunderstood your question!

Preface: The Black Studio TinyMCE Widget name is actually displayed as Visual Editor in WordPress.

The widget on the left is the Black Studio TinyMCE Widget and the widget on the right is the SiteOrigin Editor.

Here is what the Visual Editor edit interface looks like

Notice the plugin icon in the top right. This icon isn’t required for third party Widgets but it’s a good way to know just by looking at the interface if it’s the Black Studio TinyMCE Editor.

Here is what the SiteOrigin Editor interface looks like:

Notice the preview and help link at the bottom of the image.

      Hopefully this helps.

ok i’ve asked my designer to check he hasn’t used the plugin.

is there some reason why you have not deleted it and sent a message to all useers to use the siteorigin one?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Lorrie,

    Huh?

We absolutely will not delete a third party plugin, nor do we expect users to use our widgets. Chances are you’re just not using Black Studio. Are you using JetPack? I’m pretty sure they’ll also add a visual editor widget.

Lol now I am confused I thought you had said that that app was also created by siteorigin? It was installed by my designer, whom didn’t realise there were two think he was confused by it as well; he has removed it now and may well be the plugin that was causing errors on our website as it was linked to this problem that I reported at the top I’ll have to monitor this.

      Hi, I Work Here

      Hi Lorrie,

We created SiteOrigin Editor. The Black Studio TinyMCE Widget is a third party plugin and was not created by us.

I’m sorry for any confusion this may have caused you.
