SiteOrigin to core WP

Hi there,

I’m about to redevelop a site that uses SO page builder as well as a number of widgets within the widget bundle. The site is being migrated away from SO and was wondering the best way of migrating them from SO page blocks to Gutenburg blocks.

Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

Hey Alex, thanks for opening a thread here, it’s a bit constrained offering support via Twitter.

You can manually migrate a Page Builder layout from the Classic Editor to the Block Editor as follows:

    1. Edit the page, click LayoutsImport/ExportDownload Layout(JSON file).
    2. Click the Revert to Editor button.
    3. Clear the contents of the Text tab and save. By removing the Page Builder data, the page will save to the Block Editor.
    4. Insert a SiteOrigin Layout Block and follow the same steps, LayoutsImport/ExportImport Layout.

Hopefully, the above also gives you an idea of how to force a classic Page Builder page out of the Classic Editor, even if you weren’t going to move the content into a Page Builder Layout Block. In terms of moving content out of SiteOrigin completely, there isn’t a migration method available to move content that’s contained in SiteOrigin widgets into core WordPress or third-party blocks. That said, I don’t believe a migration option like that exists for any Page Builder or widgets developed by other authors.

I do not see these options. I do know it is using the classic editor. The only option I see when editing a page/post is to add a widget.

In short, I want to get from SO’s classic editor into the default WP Gutenberg blocks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Alex

It isn’t possible to directly migrate the content from a SiteOrigin widget or any author’s widget into a default WordPress block. I don’t know of any plugin that is capable of moving their content their like that.

If you’d like a hand migrating pages from Page Builder in the Classic Editor to Page Builder in the Block Editor, that I can assist with. If you’d like to proceed with that process, for step 1 from my instructions above, the Layouts button is located as follows https://imgur.com/a/Wnke15V. If you don’t see that button, please, send me a link to a screenshot of what you’re seeing.

I only see “add widget” which means I assume it has been disabled in the theme. If this is the case I therefore have a couple of questions:
    1) Do let me know how to migrate to the page builder in block editor
    2) Can I output the blocks without the plugin running? For example, I do see the text and image blocks (created by a third party) seem to be within a shortcode and seems it could be at least output without SO being run
    3) Is there a way to easily only load the SO page builder for posts published before a certain date?

    Thanks,

    Hi, I Work Here

    1. Please, take a screenshot of the interface as you’re seeing it, upload to imgur.com or similar and send us a link. Please, also let us know which theme is in use.

    2. Do you mean widgets? Text and Image are core WordPress widgets. You can output basic content without Page Builder activated but some functionality won’t work like full-width stretched rows etc. Just the basic content will be outputted with Page Builder activated.

    3. Posts or Pages with Page Builder content should automatically hold the Classic Editor without the Classic Editor plugin installed. There isn’t any way to change that behavior based on the published date.

    1) Here is the screenshot: https://imgur.com/ZvbnTTh. The theme is custom
    2) It seems the site only really used the basic text and image widgets for the page builder, so as long as I can still output content without SO widget pack or page builder activated this would be great.

    Hope this all helps.

    Hi, I Work Here

    1. Temporarily switch to a default theme like Twenty Nineteen. If the Page Builder interface is restored, you’ll know it’s the theme making that change. You can either edit the theme to remove the Page Builder editing limitation or temporarily switch to a default theme when working through the process described in my first reply.

    2. It’s easy to experiment by deactivating Page Builder and the Widgets Bundle, you can see what you’ll have left.
