SiteOrigin Slider – background video issue

Hey SiteOrigin team,

I am creating a video slider using your SiteOrigin Slider widget with two background videos. They are both vertical.

When I first access the page the first frame starts by showing a landscape view, cropping the video automatically, second frame always displays fine vertically. When I go to the next frame, then back to the first one again, they then both display vertically. It seems I need to tell the slider to display the first frame vertically by default. Is it possible?

Please help – thanks!

Damian

    Hi Doleszczuk,

Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on?

    Hi Alex,

It’s the middle/2nd slider on the following page below:

    Hi Doleszczuk,

Thanks. This is happening due to the vastly different resolution. The SiteOrigin Slider widget doesn’t allow you to lock the slider to specific dimensions so I would change to the SiteOirgin Hero widget as that widget will allow you to do exactly that.

    Hi Alex,

It hasn’t worked. It doesn’t scale well and it stopped playing on my mobile. See updated page: https://ourhomesmatter.com/kitchen-re-design-and-build-31hg

    Hi Doleszczuk,

The SiteOrigin Hero widget doesn’t scale the video, you’ll need to set a Height and Responsive Height.
The only way to have your videos appear exactly the same is to have them all be exactly the same dimensions and to use the Siteorigin Slider widget. If you do not wish to re-encode your videos (which will be required to resize them), you’ll need to forcefully resize the videos using the SIteoirign Hero widget.

    Hi Alex,

It seems we are going in circles here. I have set the Hero widget with specific Height and Responsive Height, and it just doesn’t scale the right way.

I have now replaced it with the Slider, set-up with two frames, each having a background video. Both videos are (always have been) exactly same size – 540 x 960.

When you first open the page, the first frame is cropped, then you press the arrow to go to the next one, that one works as expected. You then go back to the first one and it displays correctly this time.

It seems it’s a bug, otherwise it wouldn’t have worked after clicking through the slider.

    Please help.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Doleszczuk,

Just to confirm, the SiteOrigin Hero widget doesn’t scale the video – it uses the Height and Responsive Height fields for height. Can you please try using the SiteOrigin Hero widget again and provide a copy of your SiteOrigin Hero widget settings so I can inspect them? To do this please open up the linked page in the editor and click the Layout button in the Page Builder toolbar. Then click import/export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as WeTransfer.

Regarding the SiteOrigin Slider, I’ve run a few tests with the videos you’re using and the slider isn’t correctly sized initially due to the size of the video files – the videos take significantly longer to load than it does to display the video. I would either decrease the file size of the videos (ideally, below 500KB – I would encode them using mp4) or use the SiteOrigin Hero widget – it doesn’t matter if the videos have loaded or not as they will be locked to the heights you specified.

    Hi Alex,

Re SiteOrigin Slider, I have encoded the video files using mp4 and reduced the size to less than 1MB and 2MB each. The issue still occurs.

Re SiteOrigin Hero widget, it doesn’t load the video on mobile and doesn’t display the videos well on some resolutions (adds padding with background colour at the top and bottom). Link to layout settings as requested here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ajt7cJrVa119iPkIQUFJ9LsP728AUw

    Thanks,

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Damian,

Thank you for a copy of the layout. Your settings are fine so I’m not too sure why it’s not working. I suspect it may relate to file size still but I’m going to log this with the development team.
