first of all, I love SiteOrigin Theme and plugins. I want to use the SiteOrigin slider for certain pages. Is it possible to put a subtitle under each of the images?

The Slider widget offers the option for a foreground layer on top of the background image. It isn’t currently possible to add a caption. Page: Slider Widget Documentation
You might try the Layout Slider widget. You could add your background image and then use the Open Builder button to add a content layer. It would be an overlay layer though.
Smart Slider 3 is another option if you aren’t able to create the result you’re after using the above.
