SiteOrigin resources flagged as blocking page causing slow website speed

5 years ago · Last reply by Andrew Misplon 5 years ago

Hello
I am using SiteOrigin Unwind theme along with SiteOrigin’s page builder, Custom CSS and Widgets. My site ranks as extremely slow in several website speedtest tools (C or D rating).

Google Pagespeed Insights rates it in the teens at 16-19, with the top blocking resources as SiteOrigin Unwind CSS and Widgets. At least it’s throughout the report.

Would using too many SiteOrigin Widgets cause this? Or does the custom CSS open the use of too much customization?

My site is https://shroudedmerchant.com

Thank you

    Hi Stella

    Thanks for reaching out.

You can start by using Autoptimize. See https://wordpress.org/plugins/autoptimize/#installation, If you’d like to add caching you can consider a plugin like WP Super Cache. Both optimization and caching require care, test your site after setup.

Once you’ve setup Autoptimize and or WP Super Cache, re-test, and then tackle each issue individually. For example, Browser Caching is an easy place to start, WP Super Cache can help with that.

    Hi Andrew
Thank you, these plugins helped me get pass the blocking resources.

I also found a post about preloads that you referenced in the past that also helped me.

Here is the link for anyone else trying to work through speed issues FAQ FAQ

I’m still having issues getting over 20% rating but at least I got pass the initial blocks.

Thanks for the update. I’m glad to hear you’re making progress.

Perhaps take a look at https://gtmetrix.com/. It looks browser caching would be an easy place to see gains, WP Super Cache should be able to assist with that.
