SiteOrigin Hero widget not working in Some browsers, cannot duplicate button

Hi,

I recently (just in the last couple days?) discovered that I have a problem with the Hero widget: the Hero image slider does not appear at all on the front end, but it works (for the most part) and looks just fine in the admin interface.

But I have noticed it is only in SOME browsers that this happens: the widget is missing on Google Chrome (on Windows 7 and Windows 10) and Internet Explorer running on Windows 7. My Hero image slider works just fine on my iPhone Safari browser and Microsoft Edge on Windows 10. It also works fine on my friend’s computer running Safari on a Mac.

I have tried clearing the cache, with the same results.

The other problem I have found with the widget in the admin interface is that when I try to duplicate a button in one of the Hero image frames (so that I can duplicate the customizations for the button) and then change the text and URL of the button, after I save my changes for the page I am editing, I go back to the widget and see that there is a new blank FRAME that contains the new button I tried to add. I have duplicated this problem in both Google Chrome and in Microsoft Edge.

I have never tried duplicating a button before, so I don’t know if this is a problem with the plugin itself or if it has to do with a recent update.

The URL of my client’s site that I am working on is http://yogapolestudio.com

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Barbara,

There’s a JavaScript error present on your website that could result in JavaScript malfunctioning. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

Regarding the duplicating button, I’m not too sure why that’s happening. Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look?

    Hi Alex,

Thank you for your response. I tried disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins, and cleared the cache for the browser, but the Hero image slider still does not appear.

I also tried changing the theme of the site to WP’s Twenty Seventeen theme, and the Hero image slider still does not appear.

I will be creating a temporary admin account, and will send the info to you shortly.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Barbara,

Thanks. I’ve created a test page (< That link will require you to be logged in) and I've found that the Weekly Schedule Embed is breaking the Hero widget. Did you just recently add the Weekly Schedule Embed or has this issue just recently popped up?

  6. 5 years, 10 months ago Barbara J. Chin

    Hi Alex,

How strange. No, the Weekly Schedule Embed has been there since the creation of the page, and as far as I know, it has not been changed. And I don’t think I even updated the Mindbody plugin that generates the Weekly Schedule Embed until after I discovered the Hero image slider wasn’t working, as I only updated all the plugins used on the site AFTER I found the Hero image slider wasn’t working, hoping updating the plugins would help (and it did not).

I also duplicated the home page to test removing the Weekly Schedule Embed to see if that fixes the problem, but I removed the Weekly Schedule widget and then removed the entire row and the other widgets that were in that row, and the Hero image slider still does not appear.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Barbara,

That’s odd. The Test Page which I linked in my previous page worked when I previously replied. I can’t seem to replicate this anymore however.
Would it be okay if I create a backup of your website for local testing?

    Hi Alex,

    Yes, that is fine.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Barbara,

Thanks. I’ve identified the cause of the issue you’re facing. You’re adding an image to one of the frames content areas and that image doesn’t exist. For whatever reason, the SiteOrigin Hero widgets preloader is picking up on this image and failing as a result of this. I’ve logged this with the development team.

To resolve this issue, please open the SiteOrigin Hero widget on your home page and open the first frame. Switch to Text mode and remove the image HTML:

(I wasn’t sure if that URL was something you wanted to share so I hid it)

Aha! That fixed it – somehow forgot to change that URL. So now the Hero image slider does show up on all the browsers I’ve tested. Thanks for noticing that!

The issue still remains with attempting to duplicate the button, though. I’ve tried again, and it adds a new blank frame with the new button showing up there.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Barbara,

There’s currently an issue with how SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle sets up that data that prevents any changes from being kept until you’ve saved the page. This is (now) known and will be fixed shortly. You can follow this issue here: https://github.com/siteorigin/so-widgets-bundle/issues/768

    Really sorry about this!

Ah ok, thanks for the info. Luckily, the need to duplicate or add a button isn’t urgent right now. Hopefully it can be fixed in the next update.
