I just moved a new client’s website from InMotion to Pantheon. The site seemed to be working perfectly until I tried to add content to either the SiteOrigin Editor or the SiteOrigin Hero Image. For both of these widgets, after adding any kind of content, clicking “Done” works as expected: the content is preserved. But when the native WordPress “Update” button is clicked, the content disappears.
I’ve tried
1) turning off all plugins except SO Page Builder and Widget Bundler; no dice.
2) switching to WordPress TwentySeventeen theme; nope.
3) looking for lost content in revisions; nada.
4) pouting; equally ineffectual, but it made me feel better.
We are using WordPress is 4.7.2 + theme Arcade, by the way.
Also, it’s only the editor that isn’t working; adding images to the “Background” section works just fine, as does setting animation, styles etc. And the theme’s built-in content editor widget also works fine. Unfortunately, I can’t use that to create a hero slider with overlaid content. :(
Does anyone have any idea what other measures I can try to get content saved to the database? If one of the developers could tell me how to manually put the required information into the database, that would be great.
Hi Felicia,
I would recommend contacting your hosting provider and ask if they have any records of you getting blocked by any of their security modules (ie. mod_security). I know that might sound weird but that would explain why this is happening on the new hosting provider while it didn’t happen with the other host.
Wow, that’s a great idea. I’ll look into that and post the result here; I’d hate for anyone else to go through this. Thanks, Alex!
I’m happy to report that the issue has been resolved. The answer was simply to update our theme! Since switching themes altogether didn’t help, I had wrongly assumed that the problem lay outside the theme. Apparently the content editor didn’t work on either one, but does work on the updated version (1.1.4) of our theme, Arcade.
I now realize that paid-for themes (and plugins) don’t always use the Dashboard to warn you that a new version is available. This is a feature of the WordPress ecosystem that makes no sense what-so-ever. I recommend that anyone managing a WordPress site search explicitly for new versions of themes and plugins on a regular basis, or at least do not assume that something is up-to-date just because you haven’t been notified of a new version. Hope this spares someone what I had to go through!
