Siteorigin Contact Form Widget Issue

I am experiencing an issue with a site that I did a redesign for a few months ago. At the time, one of the issues that the client wanted addressed was that he wasn’t receiving emails when site visitors completed any of the contact forms on his site. After some research, it was determined that this was being caused by the fact that he was using a hotmail address for the send-to for the form submissions. Once I created an email address that incorporates his domain name and that as the send-to, the problem was solved. Now, he is experiencing a situation wherein the form won’t even permit the submission process to complete. Instead, I get a message at the top of the form that states, “Error sending email. Please try again later.” I am using the Siteorigin page builder plugin and, for the form, I am using the Siteorigin Contact Form Widget. The URL is millerridgefarm.com. Any thoughts on what could be causing this and how to resolve it would be appreciated.

    Hi Chris,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues with your client’s contact form. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

    Alex:

Hello! Thank you for your reply!

I did as you asked, but the issue persists.

If you can provide me with a way to send you a private message, I would be willing to give you the login credentials for the WP dashboard.

    Hi Chris,

Are you able to receive other emails (as in, not from the SiteOrigin Contact Form) from you your client’s website?

If so, would it be possible for you to send me an export for this widget? To export a page, please open up the linked page in the editor and click the Layout button in the Page Builder toolbar. Then click import/export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as WeTransfer (no email is required).

    Alex:

I am not sure what you are asking, in your first paragraph. If you are asking if my client is able to receive emails sent by people to the same email address that I am using as the send-to address, he hasn’t indicated any issue with receiving emails.

As part of my attempts to resolve this issue, I changed the send-to address on a couple of pages, but those also would not send.

Here’s the transfer link for the export on the WeTransfer site: https://we.tl/t-yNWlUIxwTc.

Let me know if you need anything else.

    Hi Chris,

I need to verify that your client’s website isn’t having any issues with sending emails in general. Are you able to receive other (unrelated to the contact form) emails from your client’s website? The email address that receives the email isn’t important.

    Hi Chris,

Thank you for the export. The contact form worked without issue for me. I noticed you have Akismet enabled. Do you have the Akismet plugin installed? If so, please open the SiteOrigin Contact Form and open the Spam Protection settings group, and then open the Akismet settings group. Untick Use Akismet Filtering and save. Does that help?

    Alex:

I am not aware of any other ways for someone to send an email from the site, other than by submitting one of the contact forms.

I had the Akismet plugin installed, but I had not added an API key. So, I unticked the Akismet filtering as you suggested and tried the form again. Still not not working. So, then I added an API key to Akismet and tried the form again, but it still did not work.

    What else can you suggest?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Chris,

    Thanks for checking.

At this stage, you need to verify the site is able to send email (in general). I would install the Check Email plugin to verify this. This plugin may appear as though it’s not supported but it’s an incredibly simple plugin so it doesn’t require updates. It’s a debug plugin so once you’ve finished testing it, please remove it.

    Alex:

“I installed the plugin and sent a test email to my email address, [email protected]. I go the below message, indicating that the email was sent, but i have not received it yet.

The test email has been sent by WordPress. Please note this does NOT mean it has been delivered. See wp_mail in the Codex for more information. The headers sent were:

    MIME-Version: 1.0\r\n
    From: [email protected]\r\n
    Content-Type: text/plain; charset=”UTF-8″\r\n”

Does this tell you what you need to know?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Chris,

Unfortunately, if you don’t receive the email that suggests there’s a general issue with mail on your client’s website. Please reach out to your hosting provider for assistance with this issue.

    Alex:

I will check in with my hosting provider, GoDaddy, as you suggested.

I had also posted this issue to a WordPress-related Facebook group and someone suggested installing the Mailgun plugin to see if that will resolve it. I didn’t go through with that yet, as I was hoping that you and I could find a solution. Should I try that? Are you familiar with Mailgun? If so, should I use the API option or the SMTP option?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Chris,

Using a dedicated mail provider that specializes in SMTP (or via an API) is the better option but I would still reach out to your hosting provider about this to get their take as they’ll be able to provide you with an answer with your hosting setup in mind. This isn’t something we can really help with.

    Alex:

I really appreciate your help, Alex.

I will contact GoDaddy. If they can’t help me resolve this, I may have to use a different contact form plugin. I would hate to do that, but I have to get this resolved.

The issue has been resolved through the installation and configuration of the WP Mail SMTP plugin (wpforms). I am marking this thread as CLOSED.
