Site Url on pages everywhere

By lmcclellan, 7 years ago. Last reply by Alex S, 7 years ago.

Hi,

Vantage is working out great so far, but I’ve hit a big snag.

On pages I’ve set up so far, my site URL is linked with everything. I can see the whole page is linked by hovering the mouse over it.

I’ve deactivated plugins and that’s not it. Checked code (text instead of visual) in the affected pages and that’s fine. It’s not oozing out (lol) from teh footer or masthead because I can see with the mouse that there’s a break.

I also tried to see something in page source and “inspect” (on Chrome) and not seeing anything (not a coder or anything but pretty experienced with WP)

I checked for an invisible extra row or something, maybe something with a white color I wouldn’t see–nothing.
For example:

Books

About Me

Any ideas what it could be? Would really appreciate if anyone can help.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Leah,

I’ve just had a quick look at your website. Did you manage to resolve this issue? I ask as I can’t seem to replicate the issue you’ve described. If you haven’t, to clarify, is there a specific location where the link shouldn’t be?

Hi Alex, Thanks for your quick response.

Yes, I did figure it out (I posted a “PS” but I don’t see it now for some reason). It was the nav bar. I had made it invisible, but it was still lurking in the background somehow (apparently) since when I turned it back on, the problem disappeared. Somehow the basic site URL was all over each page when it’s invisible. I tested on and off, to make sure that was it, and it was.

Fixed now by letting nav bar show. But I wonder if there’s a way to make the nav bar invisible without that happening.I would love to just have the icons as my nav bar/menu. It’s a simple site and doesn’t need much.

    Here’s the site: http://leahmcclellan.com/

Maybe with the Premium this doesn’t happen, and I’d love to get it in the future (but money’s flying out the door right now with a big project). But this could be a bug in both versions (?).

    Thanks,

    Leah

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Leah,

Is the issue currently present or did you revert it to the working settings? If so, can you temporarily re-enable the issue so I can inspect the resulting issue?

To clarify, we’re currently not aware of any widespread issues like this one so there’s likely something specific about your setup. I’ll try and work out what’s going on once I’ve taken a look at the issue itself. As a result, premium wouldn’t help in this instance. Sorry mate. :(

    Hey Alex,

The issue is present if I hide the nav bar (which I would prefer). I’ve unhidden it so you can take a look.

    The setting is “Customize>Theme Settings>Layout>Masthead Layout>Empty Menu”

    Here you go:

    http://leahmcclellan.com/editing/

On that page, the “spill over” or “oozing out” site URL goes about a third of the way down. (Text is linked to the main URL for some reason)

On this page http://leahmcclellan.com/books/ it only affects part of a heading (H3 I think) and a couple of words.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Leah,

Hm. Can you send me the contents of your text widget in your masthead? You can find this at WP AdminAppearanceWidgets.

    Yep. Hmmm. What’s missing…

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Leah,

Thanks. Okay, so the issue is that you didn’t close the anchor (which in turn is telling the browser to link everything until it’s closed). Please add </a> to the end of your masthead text widget.

    Hi Alex,

You’re right. That’s it. How embarrassing lol (I’m not a coder at all, but I should know better) I’ve never bothered to close that because it’s never given me a problem in sidebars or rare occasions I’ve used it on a WP page (I just keep copy/pasting the same snippet). Or so I thought. Turns out you also solved a small problem I had on another site (oozing code lol).

Thanks! It also made the masthead more centered.

    Hi Leah,

    Awesome! :)
Don’t worry about it mate – things like this help us improve. Now when this sort of issue happens again you’ll know exactly what to look for.
