Site Origin Editor Widgets not working since WordPress 4.7.3

I’ve recently updated to WordPress 4.7.3 and noticed that the Site Origin widgets are no longer functioning:

When going to edit and existing widget in the page builder, the content disappears. Upon confirming, the page refreshes to have consolidated all of the page widgets into one widget – losing most of the formatting, background images etc etc.

Just to be sure that the issue is with the SiteOrigin plugin, I have tested a completely fresh installation of WordPress 4.7.1 with the newest versions of Site Origin Builder and Site Origin Widgets Bundle. No other plugins are active.

Are you aware of any issues with the SiteOrigin plugin and WordPress 4.7.3?

Thanks in advance,
Andy

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Andy,

Preface: There are no known issues with WordPress 4.7.3.

So, to clarify, are you able to replicate this issue with a fresh install of WordPress 4.7.3, SiteOrigin Page Builder (2.4.25) and the Siteorigin Widgets Bundle (1.8.2) with a default theme? If so, are you able to replicate this issue on another server?

    Hi Alex,

I have replicated this issue with a fresh install of WordPress 4.7.3 with the latest installs of both SiteOrigin PageBuilder and Widgets Bundle using the default WordPress ‘twentyseventeen’ and ‘twentysixteen’ themes.

I do not have access to another server but I could attempt to test using WAMP to create a local server environment?

I have isolated the trigger of the bug to be when attempting to add any element of rich editing to text within a page builder widget (text align / text colour / adding a link). When attempting this I cannot ‘Update’ the page, instead the page refreshes and only the ‘text’ tab is displayed (all the page builder columns & content is gone) – switching back to page builder then simply only shows one widget (no matter how many columns/widgets of content were previously added )

Note: I have also tested using the ‘Black Studio Tiny MCE Visual Editor’ widget and the same happens.
This would seem to suggest that it is an issue with the PageBuilder widget.

    Thanks,
    Andy

    Hi Andy,

Yes. If possible, can you please try replicating this on a different server (locally is fine). Also, are you able to replicate this issue on your website when using a different browser and/or computer?

I’m unable to replicate this issue on any of my test servers so I’m struggling to try and work out the cause for this issue.

I’ve run a local MAMP server to test a fresh wordpress installation with the SiteOrgin plugins and all is working as expected.

This would suggest that there is an issue with my web server (1&1). Note that I have previously run the siteOrigin plugins fine on this server – so the issue must be something that has changed within the last few months.

I know this isn’t your issue to fix, but do you have any idea what could be a place to start investigating? i.e increase cache size? etc. Have you ever come across a common server problem/configuration that affects WordPress sites updating pages using SiteOrigin widgets?

    Thanks,
    Andy

    I’ve fixed the issue.

I’m embarrassed to report that the PHP version on my web server was way out of date – which must have been causing the conflict with the SiteOrigin plugin. I had no idea that my hosting provider didn’t automatically update the PHP version when a new one was released.

I’m annoyed that it was such a simple thing – but relieved that I can now get back to work!

One to note for the future.

    Thanks for your support Alex.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Andy,

I’m glad you managed to resolve this issue. To clarify, what version fo PHP was the server using?
