Several questions on using theme

I’m very new to WordPress and the Vantage theme and there are a few things I can’t seem to figure out.

First of all I have several pages that I have placed under the homepage as the parent – however, none of these “child” pages show up in a dropdown but instead as main navigation links. I’m not understanding why this didn’t work as expected or what to check in order to make this happen as envisioned. Ultimately these pages will not have the homepage as the parent page but put them there for now as I’m developing the site.

Also I have set the Current Page background color to the same as the hover color – thinking that when a page is clicked on the background behind the navigation item will turn that color – and it doesn’t. Again, not understanding why this doesn’t seem to work as expected.

Lastly, is there any way to customize the footer to have centered text across the bottom? I have put a visual text editor box in the footer widget but the text that I’ve placed there isn’t centered across the footer.

Thanks for your help.
Maureen

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Maureen

    Thanks for running Vantage.

Head to Appearance > Menus, create a new menu there, set it up as required and save it to the theme’s primary menu location. That should do the trick.

Vantage is missing a beat on the current menu item colors right now. Sorry about that. Please try inserting the following under Appearance > Custom CSS:

    /* Vantage Current Menu Item Colors */.main-navigation ul li.current-menu-item > a, .main-navigation ul li.current_page_item > a { background-color: #000000 }.main-navigation ul li.current-menu-item > a, .main-navigation ul li.current_page_item > a { background-color: #000000 } .main-navigation ul li.current-menu-item > a, .main-navigation ul li.current-menu-item > a [class^="icon-"],.main-navigation ul li.current_page_item > a, .main-navigation ul li.current_page_item > a [class^="icon-"] { color: #ffffff }

Please replace the background color twice, where I have #000000. Finally replace #ffffff with the current icon color. You can ignore this if you’re not using menu icons.

Try moving your footer text to Appearance > Theme Settings > General: Site Information Text.

Hi thanks for this info – I will give that a try.

Regarding footer text – I will move the copyright here but what if you wanted more text in your footer? For example, I may put my name there as the site designer and often there is the privacy info link (though I’m probably going to leave that last part out on this site.

Also, I didn’t end up needing the custom CSS above – once the menu was set up and saved to the primary menu location, the on-page color worked without having to do that. Thanks again!

    Hi, I Work Here

You’d usually use the Site Information Text field in conjunction with the footer widget area. The footer widget area splits into columns as widgets are added so four widgets will create four columns.

Glad to hear the menu options worked.
