Set background on row so that it stays within the content area

When I set a background on a row it’s totally stretched over the entire screen. I only want the background to stay within the actual content area.

How would I achieve that?

The row is set to default and NOT full width. Then I would asume it would stay within the container or content area.

    Hi Ptoolemy,

This sounds like it could be a theme issue.

Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on? If you need to keep this URL private from other users, just select “Private Reply” on the bottom right of the comment box.

    Hi Ptoolemy,

    Sorry for the delay.

So technically this is a theme issue, or rather, a legacy setting issue. Please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceCustomize and then go to Theme SettingsLayout and untick Force Page Builder Styles Full Width.

    Thanks for the help!

Now it works when picking the standard option, but also when picking “Full Width” shouldn’t the background color also stay inside the content area as well? What I mean is that only the “Full Width Stretched” would result in the background being stretched over the entire screen. Isn’t that how it suppose to work?

By the way, even though the standard option doesn’t result in background color being stretched, it’s still not quite within the content area. It goes a little beyond on the left and right.

For both text and image they all stays within the content area when picking “Full Width”, but the background color on the row are being stretched all the way. I think this should only happen when picking the option “Full Width Stretched”.

So as I understand “Full Width” means full width within the content area, so I would also expect background color to behave in the same way, the same way as text and image. Only “Full Width Stretched” should extend beyond content area.

Isn’t that how it suppose to work?

So of course I could use the standard option, but the problem with that option is that the background goes a bit further on both left and right of the content area. So if I have content area set to width 1200px then I also want the background to stay in that area, instead of bleeding 40px (or something) on both left and right. This is what happens with the standard option.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Ptoolemy,

Think of it as Full Width as contained and Full Width Stretched as uncontained. In other words, what you’re seeing with the layouts regarding the full width differences make sense and are intended.

The standard layout going beyond the container though… that shouldn’t be happening. Could you show me an example of this on your temp site?
