Search Engine Navigationmenu

By Koen, 8 years ago. Last reply by Andrew Misplon, 8 years ago.

Hi,
I would like to make some changes to the search engine in het navigationmenu. I would like to have the searchfield next to the search icon in the navigation menu. I also would like it to stay opened for up to 25 characters.
Can somebody help me with this?
Thank you,
Koen Leemans

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Koen

    Thanks for reaching out.

The search feature uses JavaScript and is, unfortunately, not editable in the manner you’re looking for. One option might be to turn it off in Theme Settings and instead use a Search widget in the header widget area.

Another option is to turn off the menu search and combine these two handy plugins:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/shortcode-in-menus/
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/search-shortcode/

The first allows you to insert any shortcode as a menu item from Appearance > Menus. The second allows you to insert a search form as a shortcode. This would be a way to insert a search field into the menu.

    Hello,

Thanks for the info. We’ve tried it but unfortunately this isn’t working out for us. We do have an additional question though. Is there a search widget with a search enige that has a nicer looking design like the search enige in the navigation menu? We would like to have a search engine with a ‘search’ button next to it and if possible with the same type of ‘’living’’ search field design, with this I mean that the | character keeps flickering.

Not that I know of but it’s not something I’ve searched for in the past. You could start looking here:
