Row Inside Row!

1st of all, thanks a lot for this wonderful page-builder you people are provided and I am forever obliged..
Though i am subscribed for premium, i will still like to post this publicly as this may help others..

Earlier I have used another PB : Elementor. And it’s equally good. Infact they have better effects and controls over live page design. But one “major thing” Elementor doesn’t have is widget in sidebars, thats where I decided to continue with SO which give many other advantages like history etc. Now I have 4sites in SO and just 1 in Elementor. And I am planning business subscription for my client who has bundle of 3sites.

Having said that, one thing that still holds me back is “Row Inside Row”. Elementor allows to place “columns” widget inside other columns widget allowing a column can be split into smaller columns further. This is specifically required when you have 1 100% row with 100% spread title and 2 or more columns just below it in the same row. This entire row forms a section that needs to have same and smooth background effect.

I discussed this on mail, and the support guy told me a wonderful solution that we can simply add entire SO widget in any row and then further add rows/widgets to it to keep expanding. This is awesome, and works.. but it has bug!

To understand this, kindly have a look at : http://14.ananyamultitech.com/ (this is a demo site..)

Once you scroll to 2nd view-port, you will see “Welcome to Yashwantrao Bhonsale International School” and photo of project and some description. This title “welcome to..” is 100% title and the content portion below : image and description is split in 2 columns.
but essentially they are part of same section, because i want to apply common background effect to this entire section.
as suggested, i used SO Widget inside that row and placed another row inside widget with 2rows and added this. Things look good so far on desktop. Now change it to mobile view and see. The row inside widget doesn’t collapse.
One thing i should ask politely is, am I doing some mistake here or missing something or is this kind of bug you people missed??

To conclude, i think “row inside row” is a requirement now. Kindly consider following :
1. responsive and collapsible behaviour..
2. same background for section : not color, or patter, imagine gradient. You need common section with multiple column layouts having same gradient spread across..

*The theme and the wonderful “post carousel” i am using is from “OceanWP”. I have reported this theme to your support team, really an extra-ordinary theme with tons of customization including header, footer and what-not..

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Vinay,

One thing i should ask politely is, am I doing some mistake here or missing something or is this kind of bug you people missed??

It should be collapsing. The layout builder doesn’t include any sort of functionality that forcefully disables the responsive code so this shouldn’t be occurring. Would it be possible for you to send me an export for the linked page? To do this open up the page in the editor and click Layout button in the Page Builder toolbar. Then click import/export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as teknik.io.

    2. same background for section : not color, or patter, imagine gradient. You need common section with multiple column layouts having same gradient spread across..

Your best bet to do this is through a layout builder. I understand your reasoning however so I’ll log this as a feature request.

    Hi Alex,

    thanks for your response..
Here is your export : https://u.teknik.io/FOEsL.json
Just followed your steps. Didn’t understand anything ;)

Have you seen the demo link posted by me? : http://14.ananyamultitech.com/ (this is a demo site..)
If you scroll to 2nd viewport, it will give you clear idea of whats going wrong. You have to access using mobile.

Kindly have look at : http://dhanlabh.in/. This is in Elementor. See the sections in green, purple and blue and coral backgrounds. They have header widget which is single column, then below that 2or more columns, but part of same section with common background. Its in local indian language, so u wont understand the text, but you will get the sections and designs. For this we should be able to insert rows within rows having different columns.. i hope you are getting what i am trying to say.

    Hi Vinay,

    Thanks.

That’s okay. Basically, viewing the page only tells you half of the story. I need to actually view your page’s settings to work out why the row isn’t collapsing correctly because there’s no reason it shouldn’t (based on the pages settings – it’s working without issue for me when I test the exported layout).

I’ve run a few tests and I can’t replicate this issue locally so that leads me to believe that something is interfering with SiteOrigin Page Builder when it’s being used through a Layout Builder.

Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If the above doesn’t help, can please try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

Sure I can do all above..
But what if I give u admin user pass of that site? It’s demo site, not production. And you may do whatever experiments/tests. I can then change passwords later..

If sounds alright then kindly mail me on [email protected] so that I can give u user password there..

    Done Boss.. kindly check..

Just for your kind attention, my license was for 1 month (trial one) and expired. I have not renewed it yet, because though i am using SO on 3 sites, i am still experimenting with many things. Though i am planning to buy 3site license for one of my client, it might take some time. Sooooooo actually I am not your premium user … just to let you know..

And beyond all license and everything, i wanted this problem/bug to be addressed. This is one of (other 6/7) points and major one I observed while comparing SO with Elementor and other PageBuilders. I am sure, if you are convinced and resolve this, then SO will be #1 and most versatile PB.. And i will be very proud and happy!

**Regarding your comment on theme, OceanWP is one of them best theme (i have used many including SO & Divi themes, and did many experiments, believe me..) IT gives wonderful header and footer customizations, that no-one offers, social share, related articles, blog display control etc. And now it gives “Posts Slider” thats so wonderful and feature rich. This theme is developed for Elementor actually, Free & OpenSource. I have reported this to your email support executive. Kindly check this and please please provide us with some such base theme which is awesome and feature-rich. It has limited particular flaws like title etc. IF you want i will give you the list, if it helps to make SO the best..

sorry for writing you long long comments and taking your valuable time..

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Vinay,

    That’s fine. :)

Thanks. Okay, so the plugin causing the Layout Builder not to be responsive is Breaking News Ticker. Once that’s disabled the Layout Builder will be responsive. Oddly, this issue only occurs when logged out so it’s possible there’s a specific setting in Breaking News Ticker plugin that’s causing this issue for logged out users.

Due to how inactive its development is and the low install count, your best bet would be to replace Breaking News Ticker with another plugin.

  9. 7 years, 2 months ago Vinay Samant

    Thank you so much alex..
I will re-check and disable it immediately..

just one (may be stupid) question, it’s in separate row, so still?? i mean is it possible to somehow bypass it’s effect? I am asking this for one reason is, i am using it on http://www.dhanlabh.in. And also using some other plugins there. And their responsiveness is no problem at all.. but that site is not using SO, it’s using Elementor. So is it possible that you may kindly look into CSS Row Handling properties of Elementor and see if any of it us useful?

Can you please comment on OceanWP please, that will be a guideline for me..
thanks once again for your kind support..

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Vinay,

The reason why it collapses differently on dhanlabh.in is due to how you’ve added the image and text. They’re not separate in structure, while they are in SiteOrigin Page Builder due to how you’ve added them. If you set it up in the same manner in SiteOrigin Page Builder (being through a single SiteOrigin Editor widget rather than a Siteorigin Editor widget and a SiteOrigin Image widget), it’ll collapse in the same manner. Does that make sense?

I’m unsure on your question regarding OceanWP. Can you please clarify what you’re asking? Sorry about this.

  11. 7 years, 2 months ago Vinay Samant

    Yes..
u mean i should setup that image in Editor itself than making it Image Widget. But Image widget gives me some options like making it full cell.. basically i have not tried this way, but i will try now. idea was to divide the row like apple.com does on their sites. This does not work well in “inline” or embeded images…

i wanted to draw your attention to responsiveness and row logic of dhanlabh.in even after using breaking news widget.. can we borrow something from them?

Regarding OceanWP, have u seen that theme? You can see that in action on both above sites.
As written earlier : OceanWP is one of them best theme (i have used many including SO & Divi themes, and did many experiments, believe me..) Is it possible to fork this theme for SO and provide as base theme with SO?

    Hi Vinay,

Correct. Sadly, you’ll need to make a trade off (less control vs nicer collapse) if you would like for it to collapse in the same manner as your other website.

i wanted to draw your attention to responsiveness and row logic of dhanlabh.in even after using breaking news widget.. can we borrow something from them?

I didn’t notice any major responsive differences in how things collapsed outside of structural differences. Can you please highlight an area that you feel we should improve upon based upon your other website? I would be more than happy to log your feedback.

Regarding OceanWP, have u seen that theme? You can see that in action on both above sites.

I have. I’ll log this as a suggestion.

i dont know whether i can explain it correctly to you..

see when i develop site, i do it on laptop and test on 19″ desktop screen at same time. That time i develop rows and put-up columns inside rows giving widths. Common assumption is, every column will collapse with inside widget on mobile devices to take full width of vertical mobile. Here very few people use tablet so i dont even test it on tablet..

now pay your attention to Dhanlabh. Specifically section on Black Background. Search “युटिआय : भारत सरकारचा उपक्रम” this title and you will see. It’s single section divided in 2 columns. Then each column had 100% header row and some intro text. Then that column is again divided into 2 or more columns of equal width(50% or 20% or 33%). See the next view-port in pink background color. It has 4 rows with different column structure in one section. All these columns, inside columns automatically become responsive 100% width on mobile devices, i think because they ignore container “row element”. So images, widgets, everything gets resized accordingly… This is “row inside row” or “columns” widget of Elementor. And i think this is very necessary feature. If you want i can setup Dhanlabh.in on test domain and give you Admin access that will give you exact feel of how elementor columns widget work and why is that essential..

Ok.. to give you another example check my client http://saathtrust.org. This is still under construction.. You will see a slier on left and 4 tiles on right. I have used “Layout Builder” widget inside row to develop those 4 tiles. Those tiles dont become responsive on mobile devices.. And here i m not using breaking news, or any other widget/module… i think this is where u may understand what i mean to say.. infact i just noticed it, i have used layout builder 3 times in this page, and it’s not becoming responsive anywhere. Please check this site on mobile and 2 times u will see rows crossing browser area… layout builder responsiveness is the problem i suppose. If you want i can give you admin control of this site also.. this is still not production..

**thanks for considering OceanWP. I hope i will get a powerful base theme soon..

  14. 7 years, 2 months ago Alex S
    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Vinay,

Okay, so it looks like you’re experiencing another plugin conflict issue on saathtrust.org because, as mentioned, the layout builder is meant to collapse and if it doesn’t collapse, something has gone wrong. In other words, things aren’t collapsing in the desired manner due to an issue – not due to it not being able too.

Do you have Breaking News Ticker installed on that site also? If so, that’s causing the responsive issues with the layout builder. If not, can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue. Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

  15. 7 years, 2 months ago Vinay Samant

    No Alex,

no other plugin, widget enabled or used in that site..
just check the site once and you will know.. check on mobile..
This time i m sure it’s and issue.. when layout builder is used, it doesn’t collapse..
Only thing possible is, if it’s because of theme, or not using ur default themes..
but then the page-builder becomes theme specific and you cant claim to use it for any theme..
kindly check site and you will realize what i am saying..

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Vinay,

I’ve checked the markup of that website and the responsive markup isn’t outputting. The only way for that to happen is if a plugin is interfering, you’ve disabled the collapse for that widget (which is unlikely) or you’ve disabled the SiteOrigin Page Builder. The chance of the theme interfering in this instance is very low.

Please run a plugin conflict test to work out what plugin is interfering.

  17. 7 years, 2 months ago Vinay Samant

Trust me Alex, nothing other than SO is installed. It’s fresh install awaiting approval from client. Hence no modules and things yet.. i m sorry to trouble you again and again and i dont know how right/wrong this is, but if u want i can get you admin access to this site as well, like that demo site, if you dont mind.

“The chance of the theme interfering in this instance is very low.” : i feel the same..

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Vinay,

Thanks. The layout builder wasn’t responsive due to having Content Cache enabled (WP AdminSettingsPage Builder, open the Content tab). This is unintentional so I’m going to log this as a bug and it’ll be fixed in an update. It should now be working as expected now the Content Cache has been disabled. Sorry about that!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Vinay,

Actually, I just noticed both SiteOrigin Plugins are outdated. Can you please try updating them to see if that helps?

  24. 7 years, 2 months ago Vinay Samant

I am happy that things are working now as expected…
still i request you to please look into “columns” widget/idea of Elementor. It’s worth picking up..
If you want, i can give you demo login for Elementor Site where you can see things in action.
I am not good programmer like you people, so i can save your time in setting up things, demos, testing. I hope it’s ok with you!

**Before we close this thread, just one humble note: google maps widget of Elementor does not require any API KEy etc. It just works. Does that sound better?

Thanks Thanks And Thanks a lot for your kind cooperation and support! So nice of you..

  25. 7 years, 2 months ago Alex S
    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Vinay,

I suspect Elementor is using a much older version of the Google Maps API. To clarify, Google requires that you provide an API key so it’s not something that can be avoided long term.
