Hello! (I searched “rotating background image” and “random background image” before posting.)
I’d like to supply Vantage with a few different background images of the same dimensions, and have a different one appear randomly each time the site is visited.
Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!
Hi Dave
Thanks for posting.
When using the Vantage boxed layout, the regular WordPress background setting is in use. Boxed layout is available from CustomizeTheme SettingsLayout. If you save and then reload the Customizer, you’ll see the Background Image setting at CustomizeBackground Image.
Once in boxed layout you could then try a plugin like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/random-backgrounds/ although that’s quite basic, I’d imagine there are better options.
Summary, in boxed mode the regular background image feature is in use. Most background image plugins use that.
That's a great answer and I understand. I've switched to that layout and I can see how that will work.
I'll give it a try and I'll check back here to tell you the status for this post.
Sounds like a plan :)
The plugin you recommended and the others I found myself were all 3 versions old and not recommended by use by WordPress.
But more importantly, it seems that once again my nomenclature messed up my question.
Please look at my site again at:

The “background” area in which I want to rotate images upon loading the page is not the light gray area, it’s the area that is is called “Page Background Image.” It’s a tiled graphic of landscaping mulch and the filename is “Back1.jpg.” The background can be different when any page loads. I’ll be rotating Back1.jpg, Back2.jpg, Back3.jpg.
I need a plugin or a place to insert code to do that, please.
Dave
Hi Dave
Thanks for your feedback.
It’s definitely possible to use older plugins, it’s just slightly riskier but if you FTP access you can delete a plugin manually if the worse had to happen. I tested the plugin I linked previously before linking it, it works fine.
Unfortunately, without custom development, it isn’t possible to rotate images that are inserted using a theme setting.
