Reusing the blog layout in Vantage and/or Unwind as block in Gutenberg?

Hi,
I would like to use one of the SiteOrigin-themes Vantage or Unwind for a webpage we are migrating into WordPress. I’m happy with the blog layout that I can set up using the built in functionality of these themes. But I’d like to add some more features/blocks to the start page of our site above where all the posts are listed. How can I do this?

I’ve assumed I should
1. Set the start page to a specific page instead of just latest posts.
2. I need to design a new page, building the layout there. All parts but the blog-grid works nicely to build.
3. What I’m hoping for then is to be able to add the posts grid as a block into my page and by that be done.

Can this be accomplished?

I’ve been looking at blocks available that can render a grid layout and decided that they do not deliver what I want. Partly because they have to little design choices – the built in ones of Vantage and Unwind looks better. And partly because this would mean I would have one different designs on the start page and on the archive pages – which uses the built in layout/design off the themes.

Thanks
Stefan

    Hi Stefan

Thanks for reaching out. If you’re working in block editor you could insert a SiteOrigin Layout block and insert a Post Loop widget into that. Please, give that a try and let us know how it goes :)

    Hi Andrew,
    Big thanks for your reply!

I’m assuming you mean I should add a block of the kind “SiteOrigin Widget” and from there choose a either the blog grid widget or the post grid widget? That was what I tried after your suggestion. They do look good but it is still not the same look as I have defined as the looks of the archive pages. And I have not yet figured out how I create pagination of the post archive in these widgets, which I really would like. Else it would look like we only have 9 posts instead of the 2500 that are already existing…

When I click a category, either from the grid itself, or from a post and the side widgets showing the categories i’m taken to the post archive of that category. There I’m shown the layout that is defined as the theme blog design – another than the one I can achieve through the widgets, which gives a somewhat confusing impression.

But you say “insert a SiteOrigin Layout block and insert a post loop widget” – are you referring to something else than what I am trying to do with the widgets?

When I search a bit more I find elder articles about your second block option – the layout block. I have siteorigin page builder activated on my site, but do not get the siteorigin layout block as an option when picking a block. Is there something else I need to install? Or a setting I might have missed?

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi Stefan, thanks for your feedback. It would need to be a SiteOrigin Layout as the Post Loop widget isn’t available as a standalone widget in the SiteOrigin Widget Block.

Here are the steps in images, hopefully, they help. Sorry, I’m not sure yet why you aren’t seeing the SiteOrigin Layout Block. Do you have Page Builder by SiteOrigin activated, you would need to, perhaps that’s the problem?

    Thanks for the illustrative images!

PageBuilder by SiteOrigin – installed and activated when checking in my admin pannel. Not present when trying to add a block.

should I start another support topic for that?

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for checking. I’m sure we can resolve this shortly. I haven’t seen this problem before so I’m guessing. Some ideas for the moment:

    * If you go to DashboardUpdates are there any pending updates for SiteOrigin plugins? If so, please run them.
    * Is the Gutenberg plugin activated? If you’re using WP 5.0+ please deactivate it.
    * Does the SiteOrigin Layout block appear if you temporarily deactivate all non-SiteOrigin plugins, just as a quick test.

Andrew – I think you nailed it. I was using the Gutenberg plug in since I had another plugin causing an error with a blank screen when trying to create a new post. After having disabled a number of plugins I made Gutenberg work without the dedicated plugin that was available in the beta-phase. And now I got access to the SiteOriging layout block. And it looks much better this way.

Thanks a lot for your support and help! Much appreciated!
