Hi Siteorigin,
I have downloaded and activated the North WordPress theme but when I activate it and preview the page it doesn’t look anything like it looks in the demo.
How can I get that the home page looks like it is in the demo ?
Thanks,
Akira White
Hi Akira,
The difference between the default version and the demo version is purely content. We added a number of posts and set up the sidebar (please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceWidgets and add your desired widgets to the sidebar). Set the site up as desired and it’ll match if not surpass the demo really quickly.
Hi Alex,
Yes I have already done the right hand sidebar with the widgets but on the left hand side which widget is used in pages to create the post with the Images
Also, Is there files that can downloaded for the demo as It is really annoying to create what the demo looks like manually.
Thanks,
Akira White
Hi Akira,
I agree and I understand your frustration and I agree – we should have a demo file that you can easily import. This is something we’re looking at adding support for in the future.
The images in the posts are featured images.
Hi Alex,
Can I ask what is best why to upload the North theme to wordpress ?
for the homepage, the left hand sidebar what widget is being used for the image and the post ?
Thanks,
Akira White
Hi Akira236,
The best way would be to install North via your WordPress themes page. Please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceThemes and click Add New. Now, you can either install North by searching for it or by clicking Upload Theme if you downloaded it from directly from WordPress.org.
The left area of the preview is a standard recent posts page. The image is a featured image.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hi Alex,
The way I that uploaded to wordpress was by using FTP to the path wp-content > themes but when I go to to preview the page it comes after transfer it complete in the FTP it comes up with a blog page, am I installing it right ?
Thanks,
Akira White
Hi Akira236,
WordPress themes with default WordPress settings will typically default to showing recent posts on the front page. If you would like to change this please navigate to WP AdminSettingsReading and set the front page to display a static page.
Hi Alex,
Yes I know about setting a page as your home page but can I ask I there anyway I can load up the site with the North Template demo without having to create every page of the demo from scratch ?
Also, for the homepage left hand side, you sure the widget is recent posts because I tried using the recent posts widget but all it came up on the page was a link In point form for the post but I want the actual post on the page with featured Image above. whats the best widget to do this please ?
Is It possible to change the author of the post ? because I want it to to say for example like it does in the demo in the first post by Greg Priday
Thanks,
Akira White
Hi Akira,
Unfortunately, not at this time. With that said, there’s very little reason to recreate every page exactly as the demo as the bulk of them are just dummy posts and dummy products.
The left hand side of the homepage isn’t a widget – it’s making use of the above referenced WordPress setting. If you would like to emulate this on a page builder powered page you would use a post loop widget. I would highly recommend installing the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle as it’ll add more user-friendly settings for you to use while setting up that widget.
The author name is a WordPress user account setting. Please navigate to WP AdminUserYour Profile and input your name and then set the Display Name setting as your desired setting.
Hi Alex,
well I do want to create exactly whats In the demo since thats what my friends wants to work from with the template.
Yes I have already Installed the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle, I tried to use a Post loop widget for the left hand side to display the posts with the featured image but It still won’t come up as I want it to, Is there other widgets in the page builder that could display the posts or maybe I need instructions from you please on how to use the post loop widget properly as this Is the first time I have used these widgets before.
Thanks,
Akira White
Hi Akira,
Just to clarify, is there a reason why you want to use a widget for the recent posts section on the left over the previously mentioned method? They act as much in the same method so I’m just trying to work out if there’s a specific reason. For obvious reasons, I would recommend the default WordPress method.
Regardless, please ensure you set the post loop template to template-parts/contents.php. That’s exactly the same template as used on the front page. You’ll also need to ensure each post has a featured image or it won’t look the same.
