Hi there. Right now we are using the free version of page builder and i need to see if i could get some kind of advice for the carousel widget.
Currently our website has 4 categories. Each category has numerous articles written. On each single post under a cat we have the carousel showing more articles from that particular category. What we’ve been struggling with is the workflow and function of this carousel.
So if you add a carousel on a post. You have manually add the ID’s of that category. Ive installed the Clone Post plugin to help alleviate that. However, and most importantly each time you create a new post you have to go to all the other posts in that category and edit each posts carousel build query to grab the new post. Seems to be a very daunting task when you are racking up a lot posts. Doesn’t seem to be a good workflow.
So. My question is can we somehow add a category in the build query area (i know that is possible) and exclude the post that it currently being used on (dont think that is possible). It’s not really logical to have a carousel showing the post of the post you are on. You’d want to exclude it and show others.
I know from searching this support area you cannot exclude individual ID’s from the argument area.
Does premium allow for that.
Or can we embed the widget into a template and somehow exclude the post (thinking outloud).
Any advice would be most helpful!!!
thanks!
Hi Lance,
Based on your post, it sounds like you’re selecting the category via the additional field. We do not recommend doing this as it really complicates things. Instead, select the category via the taxonomies field – type the category name and select it when it shows up.
This will prevent the need for manually finding and adding the category ids and it’ll also automatically exclude the current post.
Ah!! Thank you for the response! I’ll give it a whirl.
Thanks for the reply, I gave it a try and indeed it pulled in the posts from the particular category but for some reason it still pulls in the current post.
Hi Lance,
Would it be possible for you to send me an export for this widget? To do this open up the page with the widget and click layout. Then click import / export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as teknik.io.
Ok. So I tried this in the Additional Field and it seemed to have worked.
where 1417 is the ID i want to exclude from the query. So that worked but if you look at the screenshot below, the output shown looks maybe like its not correct(characters).

Hi Lance,
Thank you for the layout.
You do not need to start the additional field off with an & as we’ll automatically handle that for you. In fact, it’s quite possible it may accidently be filtered out due to it being invalid.
The screenshot is absolutely fine – it’s only encoded in that video and not when it’s needed to be run.
