qTranslate problem with the Homepage link

Hi,

Is there a way to add link to a homepage (Vantage premium theme) and not to use URL. The problem is that by using URL you get kicked to default language as you land on domain.tld and not i.e. domain.tld/en and qTranslate annotates that /en to every link when linked to a page or post.

Thanks,
Nino

    Hi Nino

Are you using Appearance > Home Page? Try reverting to a normal page and add that to your menu.

    1. Create a page called Home. Select the Full Width, No Page Title template.
    2. Click over to the Page Builder tab, click the Paintbrush icon and clone your home page.
    3. Turn Appearance > Home Page OFF
    4. Settings >Reading, select Home as your static home page.
    5. Appearance > Menus, add your page called Home to the menu and delete the Home link you might have had.

    Does that work?

Hmm, funny, Pagebuildew works just fine with language codes on custom homepage but when editing a page it falls apart:

    Custom:
    http://www.crodirect.net

    Page:
    http://www.crodirect.net/home

    Any suggestions?

Wow that’s strange. Please can you take another look at the new page for me. Did anything change when you cloned the page, please edit each widget there and confirm everything is order. I don’t have more than a few mins experience with qTranslate, are there any shortcode related settings that might be relevant?

Looking into the content of each widget they are 100% same as custom homepage.

So here is what I’ve tried:
    adding new widgets
    disabling custom editor
changing content directly in the database

So far no luck, if you have any suggestions, please share.

Even stranger example using same text http://www.crodirect.net/placanje-rezija/

    Text box widget:
    – Title – shows both EN and HR text without quotes
    – Content works

    Circle icon widget:
    – Title – Shows everything
    – Content – Shows everything

Does Circle Icon Title and Content work on Custom Home Page but not on a regular page?

    Some standard stuff:

    * Dashboard > Updates – ensure there are no pending updates.
    * Try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if there is any change.

I’ll get a consult on this and see if I can’t find out more.

Yes, and that is the most wired part of it. They all work perfectly on Custom homepage but not on a regular page.

    No updates were available.

I tried disabling all non-siteorigin plugins, and of course while qTranslate was disabled none of the translations worked. With only qTranslate working same issues. Although, only two more plugins are activated aside from Page Builder by SiteOrigin and Metaslider:

    – Limit Login Attempts
    – qTranslate

    Thanks,
    Nino

Nino have you tried using this method to translate widget titles and fields:

    [:en]My English Title[:de]My German

See translating widget titles here: http://www.inkthemes.com/how-to-translate-your-wordpress-website-using-qtranslate-plugin/01/

I did, but as it wasn’t the real widget and it didn’t work I discarded it. However, I placed it back to the first icon widget so you can see the results.

Where is custom homepage saving widget content? My guess is that different encoding is causing this. If it is saved as plaintext (and my guess is that custom page does that) vs. saving as html, causes this problem, but not sure than why different widgets in page builder produce different results.

I was not able to sort this out, so decided to change multilingual plugin. however, thanks for your effort!

This was going to be my next suggestion as there does seem to be other issues with qTranslate. Glad you found another plugin to do the job. All the best.
