Product Navigation

With theme Vantage I use a product catalog in Woocommerce. And what I miss here is a product navigation.
For example, simple ‘next’ and ‘previous’ buttons to navigate in the present category?
Tried several plugins, as well for products as for posts, but it seems that nothing works. Are there no good (free)plugins or has it something to do with theme Vantage?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Jac

I unfortunately don’t have any past experience in this area of WooCommerce. To check whether it’s something Vantage is missing you can always try switching to a default theme like Twenty Thirteen to see if there is a change. I don’t believe that’s the case though.

    Which plugins have you tried?

Hello Andrew, thank you for the fast reaction.
Actually I’m a bit afraid to switch to another theme, the website is almost finished and within a few weeks it has to go online. If changed to another theme, and back, is there no danger of causing damage to the content and adjustments?
The only plugin which works more or less is coming from WP Backoffice and called WooCommerce Product Navigation. (http://wpbackoffice.com/plugins/woocommerce-product-navigation/) At least this produces ‘previous’ and ‘next’ buttons at the product page. Which are easy to adjust with other text or images. By clicking you can move forward or backwards through the products. Only it seems to work random and in all products instead of the current category. This is truly a nice plugin if it goes only straight back and forth through the current category you are in at that moment.
Of course I tried to contact the people of WP Backoffice, but until now I didn’t get a response.
    Regards, Jac

    Hi, I Work Here

No problem. There is no danger at all of losing anything by switching themes. It’s just a test if you think Vantage is the problem so no need to do that.

It unfortunately doesn’t look like this plugin has any options relating to what layer it’s browsing when going next and previous.

I looked around now and unfortunately didn’t come up with anything better.

You could perhaps post on the WooCommerce forum. You could also consider getting the plugin tweaked by a developer, for this option we’d recommend: http://codeable.io/.

    Hi Andrew,
As your already expected, Vantage is not causing problems here. Switched to a default theme it remains the same. So it looks like we have to work without a navigation at the WooCommerce product pages since this plugin shows a strange way to navigate through the products. Maybe later, and if customers need an easier navigation, we will ask a developer to look at it.
Strange that apparently there are no people who likes to have a decent navigation on their product pages to ‘walk through the category’ instead of using the ‘back-button’ of their browser and start all over in the category overview. Seems to me that, especially when used at mobile devices, an ‘in-page’ navigation will be more user friendly. But maybe I’m wrong.

    Hi, I Work Here

I hear you. A very valid request from your side. Perhaps send a quick request through to Codeable. It could be interesting just to see what the custom plugin or page template for this might be.

Sorry we don’t have more on this.

(You could also consider checking some of the premium plugin marketplaces. Because we focus on GPL products that’s not really our area so I can’t recommend anything there.)

    Hello Andrew,
Have posted my request at Codeable but unfortunately without any result. Most likely they don’t do anything for people with a very low budget, which is the fact in my case. Actually I’m looking for someone who has a ‘ready to go’ code, or knows about a useable plugin, or can point me into a useful direction. Anyhow it seems that I have to publish the new site without a product navigation.

Just to give you some more visible information of what it is I’m looking for, see this; http://vitanovaflora.be/Actueel-Aanbod.php?view=preview&category=29&image=1842
This ‘old fashioned’ site is created with a simple program called Sitebuilder. Here you see there is a reasonable looking and pretty good functioning navigation through the products and it stays in the current category. This site will soon be replaced with the WordPress/Vantage/WooCommerce site. Only the person I’m building it for is used to this ‘old’ websites navigation and likes to have something similar at the new site. Probably I have to tell him it’s not possible due to technical limitations.
    Regards, Jac

    Hi, I Work Here

I looked at this for another application last week. Most nev previous links work on date order, this is the problem. Probably the best hope of resolving this is if the plugin you tried added the functionality you’re after. You could always try reaching out and asking.
