Problems Page Builder 2.10.5 (and 2.10.2) and WordPress 5.1.1

Hello,

I’ve been reading through the forum, and trying the suggestions listed (clearing the cache, disabling all other plugins, updating WP). Nothing is fixing my Page Builder this time.

I also installed the Classic Editor plugin because the block editor was confusing and I couldn’t even find the Page Builder option.

For the site with Page Builder 2.10.5: On some of the pages I have a Page Builder Tab, but the page is no longer showing up in the proper format, and if I click to revert the current content into Page Builder I lose 95% of the content.

For the site with Page Builder 2.10.2: At first updating WP fixed the problem, but currently I only have Page Builder showing up on 3 of 9 pages. The other 6 pages are like I stated above (the option of a Page Builder Tab, but clicking it removes most the content). I hesitate to update to 2.10.5 on this site because maybe I’ll lose my 3 pages that are currently working?

Thanks for any other suggestions.

Connie

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Connie

Sorry to hear about this. It sounds like perhaps a conflict caused Page Builder to fail and then perhaps the page was saved in that state. I can’t be sure, this is just a guess.

Taking the plugin conflict test investigation further doesn’t sound like it would be worthwhile as the problem doesn’t sound like it’s still presenting. Are you able to roll back to a version of your site before those six pages had their content saved outside of Page Builder? Most hosts keep backups for a week.

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the response. I don’t know exactly when it started, but it was over a week ago.

Seems like I might have to take the time to recopy all my content back into Page Builder and rebuild one page at a time, but I’m afraid the problem might just come back in the future. Is there a difference between the free and premium version in the robustness of the plugin? I have always used the free version.

I feel like the problem is still presenting, however. I did already test for conflicts with the other plug ins.

I notice my code changed when things were moved out of Page Builder. For example, I have buttons (accordion) on several pages, and now they are not coded the same. Any editing on that page causes the button to no longer expand.

Would it help to share some of the html from my website?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Connie

    Thanks for your feedback.

There isn’t a premium version of Page Builder. SiteOrigin Premium is a separate plugin that extends all of our plugins and themes with additional options.

I’m not quite following how the problem is presenting. If it is presenting you can dive deeper into locating the problem. Try creating a test page in Page Builder, are you able to make that page fail? If so, I’ll gladly run you through how to enable WP_DEBUG, look at error logs and check the JavaScript console for errors.

The above said you should be able to move content out of Page Builder and back in again without issue, assuming that content hasn’t been edited.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Connie

Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:

    Private Snippet

Just navigate to UsersAdd New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and Private Snippet for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the Send Password field so we receive the details.

Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

    Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your help. I have set up the admin account and I also emailed you some additional login information to [email protected].

The About page is the only one I reverted back into Page Builder manually.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks, can you let me know an example page to check to see the issue in action?

    Pages currently with Page Builder:

About (But only because I reconstructed it a couple days ago)
    PPDC
    Contact

Example pages that were reverted out of Page Builder:

    Home
    Classes
    Join
    Events
    Summer
    Family Portal

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Connie

Our lead developer’s suggestion was to find out if there was an issue with one of the widgets used in one of the problem pages. I’ve re-built a skeleton of the Classes page: https://www.rachelsballet.com/classes-test/ and can’t find any issues. I can click the Text tab and then Page Builder tab and move the content in and out of Page Builder without loss.

At the moment, I’m not sure what caused Page Builder data to migrate to the Text tab or what caused the data to be malformed.

Might it be possible to send us your PHP error logs via Dropbox or Drive? If you Google “your host name + error logs”, you’ll often find instructions for locating and downloading your error logs.

    Hi Andrew,

I will be able to work on getting the error logs later this morning. I wonder if updating our site to using https recently would have caused the problem?

I looked more closely at the test page. One problem I observed that was happening before (and still seems to be happening) is that the buttons on the page stop functioning if any edits are done to that section.

I opened that bottom block in Page Builder and clicked on the content where the button are (with and without editing the content – I tested it twice). Each time, when I previewed the page after that, the buttons were not able to expand and collapse (even when the code was not altered at all).

Could this provide a clue into what is going on?

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the update. I see that problem and have broken the accordion on the test page. Ideally, Kadence Themes would take a look at that problem. We, unfortunately, don’t have control over that shortcode. I’ve deactivated the SiteOrigin Editor option to automatically add paragraphs, that didn’t help. You could try the accordion shortcode in a Text widget to see if that makes a difference. Depending on how many accordions you have, you could also try the SiteOrigin Accordion widget part of the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle.

    Hi Andrew,

The code for the accordion was changed when everything was reverted out of Page Builder. If I could at least get things back into the Page Builder format again I could fix the buttons separately. The main thing I want to do first is get the Page Builder working again. Will that be possible or do I have to rebuild each page at this point?

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi Connie, I’ve had everyone here at SiteOrigin looking at this and we’re at a loss. What we can say is that our new page, Classes Test, is functioning normally. Revisions work and we can revert to Editor and then restore into Page Builder. Your existing pages are missing widget shortcodes that allow this functionality (moving from Text tab to Page Builder). We introduced this in 2017, it’s unclear why recent saves, say 11 months ago, didn’t introduce this functionality into your Page Builder source code. On my local computer, I’ve restored to a version of Page Builder from 2016, even then revisions work as expected. We tried restoring page revisions on some of your pages, the issue persists. At the moment, we don’t know of a method to resolve the problem on the pages reverted out of Page Builder. I’m really sorry for the hassle this has caused. If I can send you a complimentary copy of SiteOrigin Premium, please email me on [email protected]. New pages appear to be functioning normally for what that’s worth. For the future, you could consider a backup plugin. https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/ doesn’t have scheduled backups but it is handy for the occasional manual snapshot. I’m here for any questions you may have moving forward.
