Post-loop display on Homepage

By maxm, 8 years ago. Last reply by Alex S, 7 years ago.

Hi team at Siteorigin

First of all, fantastic theme you have with Vantage Premium.

I’m struggling a bit with the post-loop though. Setting the post loop to content-page.php gets me pretty close to where I want to be, with the exception of not linking the title to the post itself. Here’s what I’d like to do on my homepage.

– Display a list of up to 20 posts with an excerpt, length of the excerpt defined by the readmore in the post content
– Display an image below the title within the post (so not using thumbnails) – I’m inserting images directly into the content of the post
– Link the title to the post itself
– Pagination if possible!

Help appreciated!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Max,

This was handled via premium support but I’m going to repost my reply here for completion sakes.

    —-

I’m going to provide three solutions in this email, all of which will make use of the post loop. Please change your post loop template to the blog template so you’re able to use pagination and have the post title linked to the actual post.

    Option 1: Small featured image

Yes, I know you don’t want to use it on the posts but we’re going to prevent them from showing up on the posts. In other words, we’re going to only allow the featured image to only show in the post loop.

Please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceCustomize and then Theme SettingsBlog and disable the Featured Image setting. This will prevent the featured images from showing on the blog page, but NOT in the post loop.

Then set the Featured Image Type to Small Icon and save. Now, set the featured images for the most recent posts (something like four or five will do).

Option 2: Manual Excerpt (not recommended)
Please open your most recent post in the editor. Ensure that the Excerpt box is visible.

Open the Text mode in the editor and copy the text you wish to display in the excerpt (you must include the image in this selection). Then scroll down to the excerpt section and paste that text there.

This will allow the image to show in the loop.

Option 3: Automated Excerpt, with read more inserted manually
Please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceCustomize and then Theme SettingsBlog and set the Post Content to Full Post. Now, you’ll need to edit all of your posts and manually add a read more. This will allow the posts to look exactly as desired up until the read more is added. At that point, the rest of the post will be omitted in the loop and a read more button added.

Now, for pagination, the following criteria must be met

    • The post loop template is set to blog
    • Posts per page (found in the Build Post Query screen) doesn’t exceed the number of results

If those conditions are met, pagination will appear with your post loop.
