Post Content

Hi. On my home page I added the Post Content widget in my first row, but when I go to view the site nothing is there. Can you show me how to get my most recent blog post content to appear in this field of my home page? My site URL is:

intelligentsportssolutions.com

Thanks.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi David,

Is this still an issue? I just took a look at your website and it seems to be working as expected.

Hi Alex.  Right now under settings > Reading I have my "Front Page Displays" as "Your Latest Posts."  What I am wanting to do is change this to have a static home page with my latest content displayed in the center of my home page.  Is that possible.
Also, the other issue is whenever I use the "Insert read" tag and then click on that button I go to a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" page.  In addition to on the right side bar I have the Recent Posts widget installed, but when I click on that I also go a Page Cannot Be Displayed Page.  Can you help fix this as well?  Thanks for your help.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi David,

It’s definitely possible to have the recent posts visible on a static page. To do this please ensure you have SiteOrigin Page Builder installed as it’s really the only way to do easily.

If you just installed the plugin I would recommend opening a blank page to do this, otherwise, go with an existing one. Open up said page, convert the page to a page builder if need be (it’s the page builder tab next to visual and text) and click add widget. Type recent posts and save the page. Feel free to customise the widget to your liking.

With this widget, you should be able to desired layout without too much trouble.

Regarding the “page cannot be displayed” issue. That’s not something I can fix. Please contact your web host and tell them your that WordPress .htaccess is either missing or broken. Don’t worry, they’ll know what you’re talking about.

Hi Alex.  I'm sorry, but I still cannot get my most recent blog content to post on my static home page.  Under settings I switched from "Your Latest Posts" to "A Static Home Page" and set home as front page.  Check it out at:  intelligentsportssolutions.com.  But when I view page the area where my most recent post should be is blank.  It does show "recent posts" since I have that widget loaded, but not my most recent post above it.  I do have the recent posts widget installed on my page builder, but no content is showing up on the home page.
Any way to get my most recent blog post to appear on my static home page?  Thanks.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi David,

Sorry, I was under the impression based on your previous comment that you wanted that. If you would like the full posts (or at least, the excerpt) you’ll have to make use of the post loop widget instead. Open up your page, remove the recent post widget and instead add a post loop widget. Then save the post.

Hi Alex.  Thanks using post loop works.
I have 2 other questions.  1st- Is there anyway to link my blog posts to specific pages or subdomains on my website, and if so, how to do that?
    2) I am still having a problem when clicking on the "recent posts" button on the sidebar for a particular post it goes to a "page cannot be displayed" page.

I think these 2 questions may be related-linking posts to specific pages.  Thanks

How do I create new Categories and Parents?  Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi David,

Are you asking with the post loop widget? If so, that’s not possible without a fair amount of custom coding which is out of the scope of what we can offer on this forum – if you really want this done, we highly recommend Codeable. I would recommend opting instead just to link to the desired places in the post instead.

Regarding the “page cannot be displayed” issue. I suspect that might be a htaccess error but I would need to confirm that before advising further. Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on? If you need to keep this URL private from other users, just select “Private Reply” on the bottom right of the comment box.

Are you asking about adding categories / parents to the post loop, or WordPress in general? If it’s the former you can make use of the “additional” field to specify categories. Input cat=CATEGORYID, CATEGORYID To work out the category id open up your WordPress category page at PostsCategories and select your category. Your address bar will now appear something like this:

    localhost/siteorigin/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?action=edit&taxonomy=category&tag_ID=1&post_type=post

The category ID is the bolded number. You simply need to specify that and it’ll only include posts from that category.

Sorry for the confusion.  The Post Loop Widget is working normally.
If you go to my public website intelligentsportssolutions.com and look at the right side bar there is the Recent Posts column.  If you click on a recent post it goes to a page that says:

    That page can't be found.
It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try one of the links below or a search?
How can I link my recent posts to the actual content of the post?  The same is true if you go to that page and at the bottom of the page there are my recent posts and if you click on a post the same thing happens.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi David,

It looks like it’s not linking correctly for some reason. I’ve got a couple of ideas, uh lets start with the simplest one first. In your WordPress admin, navigate to SettingsPermalinks. Then just save the page. I know this doesn’t make sense but this will regenerate certain data that that widget works off of.

Hi Alex.  I went to settings – permalinks and saved the page, but it is still giving me the That Page Cannot be found message.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi David,

Hmm. Just to confirm you’re using the default recent posts widget that comes with WordPress right?

It’s possible it could be a plugin conflict issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

I disabled all non-SiteOrigin plugins and then clear cache I/E.  I went back to my site and clicked on a Recent Post on the right sidebar, but still got a Page Not Found error message.
I also activated a non siteorigin theme and same thing.  None of my posts are linking to the actual blog post content.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi David,

Sadly this isn’t something I can help you with as this is a WordPress issue. I would recommend creating a post here to get official WordPress support.
