Post Carousel skipping newest post

One of my clients is having an issue with one of the homepage sliders. One slider is working fine. The other slider, however, is skipping the newest post every time.

The settings appear to be correct:

And the widget preview is correct:

And the post is showing up on the same category page used for the widget:

But it isn’t showing up on the homepage slider:

If I add a new post, then the one currently missing will show up but the new post will then be missing. The slider seems to be skipping the most recent post.

Suggestions for how to fix this?

    Hi Rooze,

Would it be possible for you to send me an export for this widget? To do this open up the page with the widget and click Layout button in the Page Builder toolbar. Then click import/export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as teknik.io.

Also, it’s possible another plugin may be modifying the query to skip the first post. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If the above didn’t help, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

Thank you for your response. I was finally able to setup a test site so that I could go through your suggestions. What I discovered is that even with all other plugins disabled and a different theme, there’s still an issue with the widget.

I placed the widget in the sidebar, as well as on a page, to test it.

When I go to the test page, both widgets work as expected. If you go to that page, the most recent blog post “A Spark for Summer Solstice” is displayed. If you go to any page, other than the home page, the sidebar widget works properly.

When I go the dynamic home page, however, then the sidebar widget omits the most recent post.

Same widget, same sidebar, different behavior on the home page. It works properly on every other page on the site, however.

I’ve ruled out an issue with the theme or with other plugins. Suggestions on how to fix this?

    Much thanks.

    Hi, Alex,
The page that is having issues is the front page, which is dynamically generated from the latest posts and does not have a corresponding Page Builder page that I can access.

Is there another way I can provide you the information you need?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Rooze,

To clarify, did you make any changes to the Post Loop settings?

  6. 7 years, 1 month ago Rooze Dovance

I inherited the site and since I don’t know what the other developer might have done, I’ve installed a new theme that has not been modified and can still recreate the problem. Here’s another odd factor to consider:

If I add another post then the penultimate post will begin to show up properly on the home page. Other pages continue to work as they always do. It doesn’t matter if the most recent post is in the same category as the widget or not. If it is in the same category it won’t show up on the home page until I add another post.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Rooze,

Thanks. Okay so I’m trying to replicate this issue at the moment but I can’t so I suspect there’s a specific setting being used that’s causing this to happen. Can you please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceWidgets and show screenshot all of the Post Loop settings? I know you don’t know if there have been any changes but I will so I really need to see the settings. Alternatively, are you able to replicate this issue if you replace the old post loop with a new post loop widget?
