Possible to save/store widgets and their content?

I am using four “featured block widgets” on my landing page. They tend to be static, but occasionally I’d like to replace one with a current issue that demands immediate attention by my community. Once that issue is past or resolved, I’d like to put back the original “Please Donate” static block. It’s a nuisance to rewrite all that content — it would be so cool if there were a parking lot for widgets and their content that perhaps I want to take down for a brief period, then put back up. Is there a way to do this, or am I making a “feature request”?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Jhoughton1,

Technically this isn’t possible out of the gate. You could, however, set up a “parking lot” post and then pull in the post data via a layout builder widget and remove the “irrelevant” sections as necessary.

For reference, you can Clone other pages / posts by clicking the prebuilt layout button and then going to one of the clone links in the sidebar.

Let me know if this helps.

Here's what I came up with — you tell me if I'm going to blow up my site.
I dropped a new row into the page, dragged it to the bottom. In editing row mode I added

display: none; to CSS Styles in attributes.

Now I have an invisible row. I dropped the widget I want to store in there and bingo — it's invisible, too! Now I create my new, temporary featured block where the old one was with a new widget. It updates fine and the
"stored" widget stays invisible. To see if the round-trip was going to work, I deleted the new widget and dragged the old one out of invisibility limbo and…it worked just like before.

Presto! Or am I screwing something up?

    Thanks.

    Hi Jhoughton1,

    Sorry for the delay!

No that sounds like a good workaround. I would however, suggest storing them in a layout builder widget so you can easily keep track of the widgets.
