PageBuilder publishing stopped working after changes saved

5 years ago · Last reply by Andrew Misplon 5 years ago

Hello,

After I make edits on PageBuilder and click Save, then Done/Publish changes, the changes do not appear on the website, on my browser or any other person checking anywhere.

When I return into the admin edit function, my changes are still there. It was working fine as I made a few text changes, previewed, updated, all published. Then in the middle of this work, it suddenly stopped working.

How do I publish these changes? I have tried clearing my browser cache then refreshing, I have purged all caches in my W3 Total Cache plugin. None of this helped.

Thanks.

    Hi Roger

Thanks for reaching out. Please, send a link to the page concerned, we’ll take a quick look and report back.

    Thanks for the link.

The Surf Conditions plugin is outputting a JavaScript error, can you perhaps try temporarily deactivating that plugin and then retrying the page update and save?

If you’d like to view the Surf Conditions JavaScript error for interest sake, here is how https://wordpress.org/support/article/using-your-browser-to-diagnose-javascript-errors/#step-3-diagnosis.

Tried that, didn’t work. Strange about the javascript error. Hope its not causing any other problems.

Thanks for trying. For interest sake, you can find a copy of the error here. If possible, you might send the error to the plugin developer as it’s probably a relatively quick fix to resolve.

Is there perhaps a change to the live page if you clear your caching plugin?

  5. Roger Mirka 5 years, 10 months ago

No, I tried clearing all caches and even tried disabling the cache plugin. Neither move changed the live page.

    Hi Roger

Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:

    Private Snippet

Just navigate to UsersAdd New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and Private Snippet for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the Send Password field so we receive the details via email.

Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

Thanks. I’ve added the word “Test” in the last widget https://www.sunsetpointresortmexico.com/prices.

Is there a particular change you’d like me to try out? A particular widget and change within that widget?

Anything really. I was trying to add a line under the 10% discount note, above the table of prices. It is in there now but will not show live. I tried deleting lines, adding words, changing words, nothing would show live. It was working fine through the day then just stopped.

If you check now, can you see my test line that reads:

“New line under 10% discount line.”

    It’s under the 10% discount.

  13. Roger Mirka 5 years, 10 months ago

No.  just checked on 2 different devices.Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

  14. Roger Mirka 5 years, 10 months ago

it shows on page preview, but not on the live site.  nor does the line below that about 19% tax.Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

  15. Andrew Misplon Staff 5 years, 10 months ago

I can see it when logged out. Please, find a screenshot here.

Perhaps try refreshing a few times?

  16. Roger Mirka 5 years, 10 months ago

I have tried.  Does not show on my Dell laptop, or my iPad or the owner's old laptop or his phone.  I thought I was finished the work until he called about the19%tax line missing.  I have purged caches multiple times.  Refreshing repeatedly now on 2devices and does not show here.Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

Doesn't show on mysamsung phone.  First ever visit to the site on this phone.Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

Your page address looks different. When I go to the public site I get

    http://sunsetpoint.mx/prices

    Roger

  19. Roger Mirka 5 years, 10 months ago

The page address you showed me is the preview address.  not the live public site address.  my preview works too.Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

I’m not sure of the URL/DNS setup. If you go to SettingsGeneral your can view your WordPress and Site URL’s, they are:

    https://www.sunsetpointresortmexico.com

You can see the change reflected at https://www.sunsetpointresortmexico.com/prices. When I originally asked to check the page, the URL supplied was https://www.sunsetpointresortmexico.com/prices.

    Is http://sunsetpoint.mx a mirrored site?

  21. Andrew Misplon Staff 5 years, 10 months ago

I can’t login to http://sunsetpoint.mx/wp-login.php with the same login details as https://www.sunsetpointresortmexico.com. They appear to be separate WordPress installations.

  22. Roger Mirka 5 years, 10 months ago

Sorry, not sure.  Just took over some work on the site.  When you go to the public website which is http://sunsetpoint.mx/ and click on prices, (http://sunsetpoint.mx/) http://sunsetpoint.mx/prices you will see that none of the changes show here.  That is the problem.  All changes were publishing and showing to the live set through the day then just stopped.  You will see here that they do not show. (http://sunsetpoint.mx/prices)

  23. Roger Mirka 5 years, 10 months ago

I don’t understand.  This is where I have been making all the changes and it was all working.

  24. Andrew Misplon Staff 5 years, 10 months ago

When making changes to the pricing page, which WordPress installation are you logged into? They appear to be separate WordPress installations.

  25. Andrew Misplon Staff 5 years, 10 months ago

I can’t explain what was happening previously, I can only try to explain what I’m seeing now. Put another way, can you login to the following URL?

    http://sunsetpoint.mx/wp-login.php

  26. Roger Mirka 5 years, 10 months ago

I’m in the one with you added as admin. Dont know how to tell the difference. And in this one, I can click on view page and it works, then click on visit site and I see the different page address here, and it doesnt work.

    Roger

  27. Andrew Misplon Staff 5 years, 10 months ago

Sorry, I’m not really following your reply. If you log out of WordPress, close your browser windows and start over by going to http://sunsetpoint.mx/wp-login.php, are you able to login to that URL? If you can answer that question on its own, that would be helpful.

  28. Roger Mirka 5 years, 10 months ago

Yes. And none of the changes are here. Yours or mine. What the heck is going on??????

    Roger

  29. Roger Mirka 5 years, 10 months ago

Yes. I am in there now.

    Roger

  30. Andrew Misplon Staff 5 years, 10 months ago

    There are two WordPress installations.

  31. Roger Mirka 5 years, 10 months ago

I guess when I logged back in to finish my work, I got into the other one somehow. Do you think I can delete the wrong one in some way? Without screwing up the correct one and the website?

    Roger

  32. Andrew Misplon Staff 5 years, 10 months ago

Sorry, I lost you there. They are two separate sites so right now there are two pricing pages on two URL’s in two separate WordPress installations. They’d need to managed individually. In the future, you might want to ask your hosts to forward one of the URL’s to the other so you can manage the content from one WordPress installation. There might be SEO implications so it’s best if we don’t advise much further on that particular topic but it’s one way you could go.

  33. Roger Mirka 5 years, 10 months ago

Okay, thanks Andrew for all of your help.  I guess I logged in at different times through two different entry points they gave me, with saved passwords.  Both sites looked identical so I didnt notice.  Maybe the original admin had a duplicate site for testing changes or something.  Thanks SO much!! Bye for now then.RogerSent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

  34. Andrew Misplon Staff 5 years, 10 months ago

For sure, I’m glad we could help solve the mystery.

If you do ever want to consolidate the sites, perhaps do a few SEO related Google searches. This will be a well-discussed topic merging two domains with identical sites. Which domain to forward, how to forward it (301 redirect) etc.

    Cheers for now :)
