PageBuilder not working with WordPress 5.5.1

Updating to WordPress 5.5.1 has stopped Page Builder from working on pages that were build before the update. I can create new pages with SO Page Builder but I can no longer edit pre-existing pages.

I’ve deactivated all plugins except for Page Builder, and changed to Twenty Nineteen theme, but the Page builder editor is still not working. I’ve also tried the ‘Enable jQuery Migrate Helper’ plugin (as per this thread: https://siteorigin.com/thread/essential-grid-has-an-issue-with-pagebuilder-in-wordpress-5-5-1/) but that didn’t work either.

Please help!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi, thanks for reaching out.

Please, temporarily switch to Twenty Nineteen and temporarily deactivate all non-SiteOrigin plugins. In that state, edit an existing page and open the browser console. Here is how to open the console https://wordpress.org/support/article/using-your-browser-to-diagnose-javascript-errors/#step-3-diagnosis. Once the console is open, please, take a screenshot of the page and upload it to imgur.com or WeTranfer.com or any cloud sharing site and send us the link. We’ll take a look and advise from there.

    Hi Andrew, thanks for responding.

Re: temporarily switch to Twenty Nineteen and temporarily deactivate all non-SiteOrigin plugins. In that state, edit an existing page

I’m not able to edit an existing page, because I don’t have access to an editor in that state: the message in the editor is “This block contains unexpected or invalid content.” Please see screenshot at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1e9YYll0Da3BbtJNb20j3z6w9kgZZDbXP/view?usp=sharing

Screenshot of the browser console for the editor is: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1X-GbGNFpgnzqjLcH0qn98e3CVRvcpQUO/view?usp=sharing

if I click on “attempt block recovery” in the editor, I’m then able to edit the page using the SO Page Builder, but there are many missing widgets (e.g. ST Widget Button, ST Widget Title, ST Widget Iconbox).

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for the update.

There is an update pending for Page Builder that should help with block data validation, if you’d like to give this update a try now, please, find a copy here https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/siteorigin-panels.2.11.3-beta.zip. With the ZIP file on your desktop, go to Plugins, deactivate and delete Page Builder. Next, install the ZIP file from PluginsAdd NewUpload Plugin. On the page showing the issue, proceed with the recovery, and then make any small change to the Layout Block, finally, save. Let us know how that goes. Thanks.

Thanks Andrew, I will try this later in the week. The organisation whose website it is, is having their AGM tomorrow – so best for me to leave their website alone until after then!

Sure, no problem. Please, let us know how it goes and we’ll take it from there. Thanks for the update.

Hi Andrew, thanks, the update works reasonably well. Now, when I first open a page, the editing icons aren’t visible until I click on the page content, then they appear as per normal and I can edit the page as before.

It would be great if the icons appeared when I first open the page to edit it (as they used to), as I’m bound to forget that I need to click on the page to make them appear, next time I’m editing it.

    Cheers

    Hi, I Work Here

Super, glad to hear you’re making progress.

Is the SiteOrigin Layout Block perhaps opening in Preview mode? If so, you could try going to SettingsPage Builder and changing Layout Block Default Mode to Edit. Does that help?

Ahh, you’re right, Andrew, that was it! Many thanks, all working correctly now :-)
