Pagebuilder breaks when I update the page

For some reason, starting today, I went to add a widget to a column on my page builder and then when I click update, it combines all of my columns and rows into one mush of html on the “text” tab. When I click the “page builder” tab, all of my columns and rows are now mushed into one row. It is rendering all of the content poorly on my homepage.

Images attached:
Image 1: What it looked like before I add to the page builder. (http://tinypic.com/r/25iw4yc/9)

Image 2: After I add to the page builder and click update, it refreshes to this, the “text” tab. (http://tinypic.com/r/xc50zt/9)

Image 3: Then I click the page builder tab and it looks like this. (http://tinypic.com/r/33bh6ok/9)

I keep having to do revisions to get back to the state of Image 1

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Danielle,

What widget are you adding? Does this issue only occur when you add that widget?

  2. 7 years, 6 months ago Danielle Gannon

Any widget. I don’t even have to add a widget, I can just click update without making any changes and it still causes the problem. If you want I can email you a username and pw if it helps you debug the issue.

    Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Danielle,

This sounds like it could be a plugin conflict issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

    Hey Alex,

I tried disabling all the plugins and cleared the cache and it still didn’t work. I tried it multiple times and I even tried it in the incognito mode and it still didn’t work.

I also tried different themes and clearing the cache and it didn’t work.

Another thing to mention is that it only happens to this one page I am working on. If I create another page with the page builder it does not happen. If all else fails then I can just recreate my page, but it would be nice to find what’s going on.

One thing to think about is the problem didn’t occur until I added a text/html widget and put some code in it. I deleted that widget immediately after the problem occurred AND I have loaded an old revision tons and tons of times, so that widget and that code isn’t even there anymore. So I don’t understand why the problem still occurs, but that being said, that was when the problem started to happen.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Danielle,

It might not be related, but just to be sure, what was the code you added to the to the text widget?

Would it be possible for you to send me an export of the problematic page? To do this open up the page with the widget and click layout in the Page Builder toolbar. Then click import/export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as teknik.io.

I’m not entirely sure what the code was anymore. I just remember it had to do with short codes that brought up data about recent orders.

    Here is the file https://u.teknik.io/XqsMF.json

The current state of the page is when everything is shown nicely in the page builder. If I was to go click update now, with or without changing anything, it will go ahead and bring me to the text tab with all the html. Then if I click the page builder tab it will combine everything into one row

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Danielle,

    That’s fine then mate.

I can’t seem to replicate this issue locally with the provided layout (I can save without issue). Hm. Hold up. Can you please try temporarily removing the last text widget in the middle column – are you able to save now?

That worked! What did you see in the text widget that made you think to remove it?

    Thanks by the way.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Danielle,

The text widget contains two invalid characters and I suspect they’re the cause. Try removing them to see if that helps. If you see them (or can’t), please remove the full word in that instance to see if that helps.

Great, thanks for the help. All is resolved :)
