Hi,
When I go Edit a page with Page Builder the page loads very slowly or it doesn’t even load at all. This happens on Chrome and Firefox.
I have disabled all the plugins to find the origin of the issue and it’s the Page Builder by SiteOrigin that’s causing the issue.
I spoke with WP Engine support and they said the Js files being pulled from the plugin folder is taking over a minute to load. This issue occurs when I change themes and when have disabled Add Widget Class as suggested by Support.
The page I need help with: http://candacerhodes.staging.wpengine.com/
Please advise. Thanks!
Hi Candace
Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:
Private Snippet
Just navigate to UsersAdd New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and Private Snippet for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the Send Password field so we receive the details.
Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.
Completed.
Thanks, please let us know what username was used.
siteorigin is the username as you requested.
This is a private message.
The account isn’t active. Please, take a look under Users. Thanks.
Active now. Thanks. There was a delay.
It is under Administrator.
Can you please, rather send access to your staging site.
how do I do that?
It would be the same process, Users > Add New. No worries, we’ll work from here.
Try increasing your WordPress PHP memory limit. Use FTP or Hosting File Manager, download wp-config.php in your WordPress root to your desktop, make a backup of the file, then edit the file and add the following:
define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘512M’);
Add that line right before: /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */
If you’re unsure about adding this line to wp-config.php, it’s something WP Engine support might be able to assist with.
If I do Users > Add New there is no option to select ‘Stage Site’ and my Staging website is here http://candacerhodes.staging.wpengine.com/.
No problem, please, try increasing the WP memory limit.
okay. can you show me how to download wp-config.php?
It’s probably fastest to ask WP Engine to add this line for you. Otherwise, see: https://wpengine.com/resources/how-to-access-wordpress-files-using-sftp/
Okay. I will do that and get back to you on it.
they increased the WordPress PHP memory limit to 512 M. it’s still not loading the page.
Thanks for trying. I’m going to get Alex here at SiteOrigin to take a look tomorrow when he’s back on. We’re into edge case territory, for the moment, I’m out of ideas. We’ll reply ASAP in the morning with further feedback.
I can regain control over the page if I delete and recreate the button widgets. Here I’ve deleted all button widgets but only recreated the last one: http://www.rhodestostrength.com/test-new/
Do you know if you ever inserted a script of any sort into the Other attributes and SEO section of the Button widgets? The current home page hangs in my localhost too.
Here is the manual way to recover:
1. Use my test page: http://www.rhodestostrength.com/test-new/. Add the missing button widgets back.
2. Delete your home page.
3. Make the test new page your home page from Settings > Reading.
When I export the current home page, I can see a <script tag in the code. My guess is that it might have been inserted in the Other attributes and SEO section of the button widgets but why the button widget couldn't deal with the contents, I'm unsure at this stage.
Hi Andrew,
I followed your directions and modified your test page and it worked!!
Thank you so much for being patient and helping me with this issue.
Super, glad we could help.
Do you recall inserting a script of any sort into the Other attributes and SEO section of the Button widgets? We’ll look at the data we can see from the page export but if you have any additional feedback, that would be awesome.
