Page Builder syntax error in styles-admin.php

5 years ago · Last reply by Andrew Misplon 5 years ago

A WordPress site using Page Builder fails to open and generates an immediate error. The site has been running happily for years and has now suddenly stopped working. Even access to the wp-admin site is failing. The error is shown below

WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, Page Builder by SiteOrigin

Error Details
=============
An error of type E_PARSE was caused in line 8 of the file /homepages/2/d644765366/htdocs/clickandbuilds/WordPress/CHWC/wp-content/plugins/siteorigin-panels/inc/styles-admin.php. Error message: syntax error, unexpected ‘”‘

WordPress version 5.3.6
Current theme: Vantage Child Theme (version )
Current plugin: Page Builder by SiteOrigin (version 2.9.6)
PHP version 7.4.13

The only recent change to the site was an upgrade of PHP from 7.0 to 7.4 some weeks ago but the site was functioning fine after the upgrade.

Would you have any suggestions on how to diagnose or resolve the issue.

Regards
John

    Hi John

    Thanks for reaching out.

Is. there any change if you update Page Builder to the latest version? There should be an update pending at DashboardUpdates.

    Andrew,

Now resolved. The main issue was the inability to access the WordPress Admin account due to the error. But after a database restore WordPress Safe Mode allowed access and the ability to update the Page Builder plugin. Updating to Page Builder 2.11.8 has fixed the problem.

    Thanks for the quick response.
