Page Builder Layouts not working in ie10 – Help!

Help!
Just got an email from a client querying the display of a site in ie 10.

I checked and sure enough, the layout is all over the place. Looks fine in firefox and chrome, just ie10. Even looks OK on ie9 & ie8.

Disabled all plugins, looks as expected.. enable page builder and addons (latest builds).. it looks like it’s not respecting the row widths or padding.

Any ideas??? Happy to supply link and admin login in private if required.

Thanks

    Update:
After a load of updating / rolling back etc I finally fixed the layout issues.
I had never noticed the “Use Legacy Layout” settings option before…
I have now set this to “Always” which has cured the layout issues we were seeing with ie.10.

Unless someone else has some more advice / tips, I’ll call this fixed and chalk it down to experience ( and the awful internet explorer!)

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Speedyp,

I’m glad you were able to resolve this issue.

Unfortunately, we no longer such old versions of IE due to WordPress itself no longer supporting them (reference). I would strongly recommend getting your clients to upgrade as it’s only a matter of them until an issue arises that is sadly unavoidable. :(

Please be sure to post another thread if you have any other questions.

    Hi Alex
Thanks for getting back to me, and reminding me about this thread as I have a follow-up question.

I completely understand your answer about supporting old browsers… However, I do find it curious that:
Our layouts worked OK with ie 8 & 9, just not 10.

Also, while I appreciate your great work and have come to rely on your site builder for most sites we do now, the amount of technical documentation can be a bit thin and sketchy.. For example, in this issue, it was solved by setting the “legacy layout” to always (an option we had never even noticed before!)

    What is “Legacy Mode?”
What is the default setting? Does PB automatically try to check which version of browser is in use and compensate for this, and if so, does it fail detecting ie10?

What exactly is “legacy mode?”. I know a lot of us had layout issues when you recently changed the source code to display:fixed etc. Does legacy mode roll back the plugin to the previous version?

Is it OK to set legacy mode to “”always” and are there any drawbacks / consequences to just setting this for all our sites now???

Sorry, so many questions! Just a proper explanation of legacy mode and how it works would be very helpful :)

    Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Speedyp,

    What is “Legacy Mode?”

Legacy mode is the old layout engine we used prior to SiteOrigin Page Builder 2.5. It uses a new method of displaying layouts and is supported by all modern browsers but it has patchy legacy browser support. As a result, we retained the old layout engine to allow for the same compatibility as before with the added benefits for newer browsers.

    What is the default setting?

    Detect Mode which…

Does PB automatically try to check which version of browser is in use and compensate for this, and if so, does it fail detecting ie10?

… will do that. I’m unsure why it didn’t detect IE 10.

Is it OK to set legacy mode to “”always” and are there any drawbacks / consequences to just setting this for all our sites now???

There’s nothing directly wrong with having it set to Always. You won’t be able to make use of newer features – such as cell vertical alignment.
