Page Builder breaking query of Post Loop widget

Here’s my predicament:

I’m using the Post Loop widget within a two-column PageBuilder page. I’ve set the template to a custom file (loop-news.php) which works perfectly on its own.

However, there’s a problem when I try to build a post query. I can set the taxonomy to

category
– though the dropdown never shows up – and the additional box to
cat=36
which corresponds with the category of posts I want to display.

This appears to work correctly, as the widget reflects “This query returns 13 posts” – all the correct ones for that category, not the 49 in total that I have in total.

However, when I save the page and look at the actual results, it shows all of my 49 posts from every category. I can deactivate EVERY plugin on my WordPress install (v4.7.3) with exception to Page Builder, and it’ll still show those 49 posts – but if I deactivate PageBuilder, it’ll show the proper 13 posts.

Have I gone loony, or is this a known issue? It’s driving me up the wall, as it’s the only way I’ve been able to make a post loop with the styling that I want (and pagination).

Thank you!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi KiDZ,

Preface: This are no known issues like this.

Does this happen with any of the other templates your theme provides? If so, can you temporarily change to a different theme and try one of their templates?

Would it be possible for you to send me an export for this widget? To do this open up the page with the widget and click layout in the Page Builder toolbar. Then click import/export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as teknik.io.

I cannot explain why it’s working when Page Builder is disabled. To clarify, SiteOrigin Page Builder actually adds the post loop widget so, uh, it really shouldn’t be displaying at all.

    Dear Alex:

I had a feeling the Post Loop widget was added by Page Builder. My attempts to get the site live yesterday were such a scramble that I didn’t notice whether the widget disappeared when Page Builder was deactivated.

That said, you might have hit on the one thing that I’ve overlooked and didn’t try to change: The theme. It’s v3.8.4 of Avada, which should be suspect enough, really. If I have time, I’ll try swapping themes today to see if there’s any change.

If the deactivation and reactivation of Avada doesn’t affect the plugin, I’ll perform an export of the page for you. Will keep in touch.
