origami-theme “Theme without sidebar.php is deprecated…”

Hi,

I’m using the Origami Premium theme. Recently, while attempting to resolve a separate issue ( or not?), I turned on debug in my wp-config, and I kept getting this warning, placed near the footer of the theme (in which I have no widgets placed – a design preference):

Notice: Theme without sidebar.php is deprecated since version 3.0 with no alternative available. Please include a sidebar.php template in your theme. in /data/17/2/53/33/2705033/user/2971453/htdocs/html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3450

I’m actually using a child theme, and so i placed a sidebar.php (which doesn’t really have anything in it except an empty div,) into the child theme’s folder, but it didn’t stop the notice from happening.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Mitch

    Hi Mitch

Thanks for reaching out. In terms of hierarchy the .org directory only requires a style.css and index.php file to qualify in that regard. I also did a quick check using the Theme Check plugin and Origami is passing.

That said, adding sidebar.php should resolve the challenge. I dug around a bit on this and came up blank. Does adding sidebar.php to the parent folder make a difference?

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the quick reply. I added my sidebar.php to the parent folder also, and that didn’t resolve the issue either, but then I’m afraid I have more issues than I could begin to explain here. I’m isolating them now. some may have to do with the WooDojo extension for sidebar widget areas, or they may have to do with WooCommerce and some extensions i have for that.

So, rather than try to pick your brain, I’ll just plug away at them. As I mentioned, there are more issues than I can even explain.

    Thank you,
    Mitch

    Hi, I Work Here

Sorry to hear about the hassle.

The sidebar issue is a warning. It’s something you can leave. I’m unable to reproduce it locally so it’s a bit of challenge for me to dig in further on that particular topic.

If you’d like to work the other issues, just let me know.

If you’re having problems with WooSidebars then give Jetpack Widget Visibility a try, assuming you need to control the footer widgets and which situations they appear in.
