I’m working out my best options for embedding video on my Origami Premium site. I can use Page Builder’s self-hosted video widget, or I could use WordPress’ native method, or I have “Ultimate Shortcode”‘s widget for self-hosted video. My videos are on my Amazon S3.
I like the results I get from the PageBuilder widget best because it’s responsive. The only problem I have is that every video ends with a kind of green overlay. I think it’s a Flash thing.
One video on the site listed does this. The other one ends in black, although wouldn’t it be nice if they could both end on the “poster” chosen for them?
I tried using FitVids.js, but it’s going to take more technical know-how to get something like that going.
Thanks,
Mitch
Hi Mitch
Can you perhaps try WordPress native within Page Builder. You could do this by inserting your video using the Visual Editor widget: http://wordpress.org/plugins/black-studio-tinymce-widget/
(Origami is already using Fitvids so there is some good news there).
I added new plugin: Black Studio tinyMCE Widget, and went to add a new post.
I selected Page Builder, and looked for some new widget to use. Nothing called Visual Editor there. I did discover a widget called “SiteOrigin Embedded Video,” which I can’t be sure was already there and I just hadn’t noticed it or not.
I tried that one, and the result was to make a link out of my S3-hosted video. Not what I want.
I deleted that Page Builder row and went into the “Visual” editor. I couldn’t see any evidence that Black Studio was giving me anything new or different. But I went ahead and pasted the URL to the S3-hosted video on a blank line and previewed it and nothing was showing up. After going back to the editor to add some text below the video, then previewing, the video showed up. Playing it to the end, there was no longer a green overlay, and instead, the video seemed to reload itself and then end up on the first view you see when the video starts. (It didn’t replay after this mysterious reloading thing.) Also, I would like control of the “poster” image that the video begins and ends on.
At this point, I’m confused as to what Black Studio did; and exactly what I did to get rid of the green overlay thing.
Thank you,
Mitch
OH! THERE IT IS!!!
Sorry. I now see the widget you described.
I need new glasses. Be right back… :D
Okay, so I used the “Visual Editor” widget from inside Page Builder. It worked, and there was no green overlay. At the end of the video, for some weird reason, the white loading indicator at the bottom runs through as if it’s loading, and then leaves you at the first image a viewer sees in the video.
The whole “mejs” thing doesn’t seem to have a way to assign a “poster” to the video, so I guess I can be happy anyway, knowing that the first image of the video is what to expect.
Can you tell me where to find evidence of Black Studio?
Thank you,
Mitch
Oh, I made the test on this page: http://karenpetty.com/dev/video-embed-using-black-studio-tinymce-widget
“Can you tell me where to find evidence of Black Studio?”
Not quite with you there. The Black Studio TinyMCE plugin offers a widget called Visual Editor once installed. A bit confusing for sure, but sounds like you made your way through the challenge.
In light of the video poster challenge you raised, another option here might be to consider hosting the videos on Vimeo.
