Online communities compatibility

8 years ago · Last reply by Alex S 8 years ago

Are your themes, specifically the North (I am using the bundle for Consultant) compatible with online communities such as phpBB, bbPress or bbBuddy (or anything else)? What plugin do you use here for your Support community?

I’d also like to style one of these plugins so that it matches my theme.

    Hi Rob,

We use a custom solution for the forums but a similar (although much more advanced) setup would be bbPress. Regardless, I’m not aware of any issues with popular community software like bbPress or BuddyPress.

phpBB is forum software that’s not native to WordPress (it’s not a WordPress plugin) so you would need a plugin to allow for it to communicate with WordPress. Due to this, I would recommend against using it as it really complicates things.

My bad. I thought someone came up with a way to integrate phpBB to WP. There’s a bridge plugin to a live phpBB site, but that’s not a good integration. I see another very popular forum plugin, Asgaros that I think I will try. If I can control the style.css with SiteOrigin CSS so that it looks like part of my theme, that’s the way to go.

    Hi Rob,

To clarify, SiteOrigin CSS is basically a visual CSS editor. It’ll allow you to write and adjust your CSS but it won’t given you a list of stylesheets for you to edit. This means that you’ll need to manually set things up and override them. This process is made easier via the visual (and expanded) interface however.

I would recommend trying bbPress first as it’s significantly more popular and as a result has a stronger developer community. This means that you can expect a larger number of enhancement plugins for bbPress rather than Asgaros.
