Hello Alex. I am having an issue with my home page. No Visual/Text in my SiteOrigin Editor. The SEO Yoast is reporting that I have no words in the body copy.

I am using the U-Design Theme with SiteOrigin Page Builder & Widgets Bundle.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Derek

    Thanks for reaching out.

Please, try the steps outlined here: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-white-text-and-missing-buttons-in-wordpress-visual-editor/. It isn’t quite the same issue but has similar steps to go over. Let us know how that goes.

Other things to check might be that the visual editor hasn’t been disabled at Users > (Your user account). You could also check for a working baseline by temporarily deactivating all plugin except for those authored by SiteOrigin and Black Studio.

Hello Andrew. This really doesn’t describe my issue. The Visual and Text Buttons are there. The actual text and visual is missing from the body. This was after a wordpress update and updating to the latest php. These caused some bugs, so I asked my hosting company to rollback to the previous WP theme and PHP.

So.. I need to figure out why the text and visual are not corresponding with the Pagebuilder. As of now, my home page has no html text in the body. Yoast is complaining that the SEO is bad because there is no text to read. Everything is built from the pageBuilder.

You’re welcome to take a look in my wordpress if it’s possible. I can give you my username and pw if this helps.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Derek

    Thanks for the update :)

Without a distinct error presenting, we’re working on the dark. Please, try a few steps and see if you can find a working baseline. We might need to fall back on disabling concatenate scripts which is why I sent the link.

    1. Try a plugin conflict test. Temporarily deactivate all non-SiteOrigin plugins and also switch to a default theme like Twenty Seventeen. Check to see if the error persists. This is a very quick test, just a couple of minutes.

    2. If a working baseline isn’t found above, try logging in with another browser or clearing your browser cache.

    3. If 1 or 2 don’t help, try adding define('CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS', false); to your WordPress wp-config.php file below the DEBUG constant. More on editing wp-config.php here: https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-edit-wp-config-php-file-in-wordpress/.

    Hi, I Work Here

When doing step 1. be sure to clear your caching/minification plugin before deactivating it. Thanks.

I’m leary of switching themes. I’m currently using a 2014 WordPress theme called U-Design with 2 WonderPlugin Carousels and a good number of widgets. Am I going to lose content if I quickly switch themes and will the widgets and content reappear when I switch back to my U-Design theme?

  6. 5 years, 4 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

No content will be lost. On the rare occassion I’ve seen widgets from Appearance > Widgets drop from a theme widget area into the Inactive widget areas after reactivation they need to be dragged back into the widget are they were in before. This is rare though.

    Hi, I Work Here

If you’d prefer to start with the concatenate scripts step, that’s ok, you could do that first and see if it helps.

  8. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

Andrew, I tried every step ( 1-3 ) and the text and visual still is missing the content.

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi Derek, thanks for the update.

    A couple of ideas:

    1. Deactivate all plugins except for Classic Editor.
    2. With only the Classic Editor activated, if you create a new page is the Visual tab in order. Is everything operating normally with the classic editor?
    3. Separate from the above test, when the issue occurs in Page Builder, try opening the JavaScript console, there will hopefully be errors presented there, let us know what those are. Thanks.

    https://wordpress.org/support/article/using-your-browser-to-diagnose-javascript-errors/#step-3-diagnosis

    Scroll for your browser.

I hope I did this correctly. I use Chrome. Went to View > Developer > Javascript Console: 2(index):1 Unchecked runtime.lastError: The message port closed before a response was received.

  11. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

I did al of the above. This is what I get in Chrome: post-new.php?post_type=page:1 Unchecked runtime.lastError: The message port closed before a response was received.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Derek

    Thanks for the reply.

Please, can you let me know how the test in steps 1 and 2 went?

    1. Deactivate all plugins except for Classic Editor.
    2. With only the Classic Editor activated, if you create a new page is the Visual tab in order. Is everything operating normally with the classic editor?

    3. This a great start but missing the file info. Could you perhaps send us a screenshot for that error, you can upload via imgur.com or any cloud sharing site like Drive etc.

The error you’re seeing might be cleared by viewing the same page without any extensions: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/54126343/how-to-fix-unchecked-runtime-lasterror-the-message-port-closed-before-a-respon

    Thanks again :)

Any ideas on what to do next?

  14. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

The steps 1 and 2 were completed, but the same issue still exists. No text or visual content. Only the Pagebuilder works.

  15. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

You’re welcome to take a look in my admin area.

  16. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

How can I send you the username and pw?

  17. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

I really need to fix this issue. Google spidered my website a few days ago and it’s lost all of the important SEO optimization. There is no text in the body of my website anymore.

  18. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

I think I may see the problem. I’m getting notices that “”This theme recommends the following plugin: WPBakery Visual Composer.” When I try to install, it says: The plugin does not have a valid header.
    Downloading install package from /usr/home/dandj/privateguitar.com/htdocs/wp-content/themes/u-design/lib/plugins/js_composer.zip…

Download failed. A valid URL was not provided.

  19. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

I recently asked my web host to upgrade me to php 7 and I did wordpress U-Design theme update. When this happened, my site crashed. So, they rolled me back. Somehow during the rollback, I must have lost the visual composer plugin.

When I try to install it again, I’m coming across that message.

    Hi, I Work Here

Visual Composer is a separate Page Builder plugin. I’m not sure how this would be related.

I’m not quite following your reply above. I asked:

    1. Deactivate all plugins except for Classic Editor.
    2. With only the Classic Editor activated, if you create a new page is the Visual tab in order. Is everything operating normally with the classic editor?

    You let me know:

    > The steps 1 and 2 were completed, but the same issue still exists. No text or visual content. Only the Pagebuilder works.

The above test should be without Page Builder. It’s to see if the WP core is working. The above test asks about creating a new page. Was the above perhaps mistaken for a similar test requested earlier?

Within our free support scope we, unfortunately, can’t log in and directly assist. We can do so within our premium support scope.

My PageBuilder works perfectly. It’s the Visual Composer and Text Plugins that are not coming up like normal. I think I need to find a way to download Visual Composer again. I used to have it as a plugin before the upgrade/rollback. Somehow it was lost or the file was corrupted?

    Hi, I Work Here

Visual Composer is a separate Page Builder plugin with a separate interface.

The screenshots show a Page Builder that looks like Page Builder by SiteOrigin but it isn’t quite the same. If you go to Plugins, does it say Page Builder by SiteOrigin? If so, which version?

Please, can you clear your caching/minification plugin and then deactivate it. Ideally, all caching and optimization should be disabled during troubleshooting.

    Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks. The current version is 2.10.5.

Any idea why 1.5 is being used?
Does an update for Page Builder show at Dashboard > Updates?
Definitely, create a backup/restore point if you decide to upgrade Page Builder.

  26. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

Here are snapshots with every plugin deactivated ( cache emptied right before deactivation ) except for the Page Builder by SiteOrigin version 1.5 and SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle version 1.0.4.

    Hi, I Work Here

At this stage, my recommendation would be to create a restore point and the update Page Builder and Widgets Bundle to their current versions.

  28. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

It doesn’t have an option to update to 2.10.5. My wordpress theme is from 2014 and I’m running PHP 5.4. I tried to update my theme and PHP, but everything crashed, so I’m stuck with my outdated theme for the time being, unfortunately.

  29. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

There is no option for update.

  30. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

Everything was working perfectly fine until 5 days ago when i asked my web host service to update to current php and I updated my theme. When I rolled back, this problem with visual/text occurred.

  31. 5 years, 4 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

We, unfortunately, can’t easily offer support for our plugins this far back. WordPress at a minimum should be used with PHP 5.6.20+. What you can try doing is enabling WP_DEBUG in your wp-config.php file https://codex.wordpress.org/WP_DEBUG. When you upgrade instead of seeing a white screen you should then see specific errors. You can then begin to troubleshoot those. For example, I ran into a similar issue to this with a client site. We needed to update a single plugin and then the upgrade went smoothly. Without DEBUG enabled you’re in the dark as to what the issue/s are.

  32. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

Look.. there is no option for update.

    Hi, I Work Here

I’m not sure why that is, unfortunately. You can upgrade manually by deleting the plugin and installing the ZIP file from the plugin page on WordPress. If you’re using a WordPress version before 4.7 it won’t be compatible with Page Builder. There are also possible issues with your PHP version. Ideally, you’d need to treat this as an overall upgrade project.

  34. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

    I am currently using PHP v5.4.27. I’m using WordPress theme U-Design 2.4.0.

  35. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

Where do I find the ZIP file?

  36. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

    I found it. I’m using WordPress 3.9.27

    Hi, I Work Here

The current version of Page Builder might not work with the version of PHP you’re using. We’re no longer testing down to PHP 5.4 as it’s end of life.

If you’re using WordPress version less than 4.7, it’ll fatal error with the new version of Page Builder. I can’t see which version of WordPress you’re using. 2.4.0 is most likely your theme version.

    Plugin pages:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/siteorigin-panels/
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/so-widgets-bundle/

Please, keep in mind that we can’t provide direct support for the upgrades that you’re attempting.

The order that you do this in will matter. I’m not sure of the best order to use. You could perhaps upgrade WordPress first, then the PHP version, then plugins. That’s one idea. Be sure to backup first. This is potentially a technical task for a developer, we can’t offer direct support, please keep that in mind. The likelihood of issues is very high, as you’ve already experienced. Debug needs to be enabled so that errors will be displayed, you’ll then need to Google each error and work each problem. You’ll need to have FTP access ready and open so that you can manually deactivate or update plugins as required.

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi Derek, the above reply was sent before your reply with the WP version. Consider seeking help with this upgrade process. Everything should be backed up first.

  39. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

I realize I need to upgrade. It won’t let me upgrade eWordpress without upgrading PHP first.

  40. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

The frustrating thing is.. everything was working perfect before the upgrades attempt 5 days ago. Now that I’m back, things are not completely back to normal.

    Hi, I Work Here

On a separate note, Yoast Content Analysis isn’t the same as a Google Bot. Yoast not being able to run content analysis doesn’t mean Google can’t index a page.

I hear you on everything working previously. You could get a developer to help you troubleshoot the issue with the versions you’re using now. We’re just not able to offer support on versions that aren’t current. I’d love to help but we couldn’t be viable and offer legacy support.

  42. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

Right, but there is literally no text in the body. When Google indexed my site last week, the headers are not coming out like they should. There are missing meta tags and text in the body.

  43. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

I host with techiemedia. Do their techs help me upgrade/support me through this or is it common for website owners to hire a separate developer for this kind of support?

  44. 5 years, 4 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

That’s different. Missing meta tags is a separate issue to Yoast content analysis.

This, unfortunately, is beyond normal hosting support. Ideally, a developer that can quickly work through the challenges that arise would assist. Perhaps upgrade PHP, then manually upgrade WordPress via FTP then troubleshoot the plugin and theme issues that arise.

  47. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

FWIW, techiemedia did the update of PHP and wordpress for me. When it had issues, they rolled it back. I wasn’t sure if that is normal for web hosts techs to do this, but they are support ticket options.

  48. 5 years, 4 months ago Derek Neece

…upgrade php, install scripts, ect. are support ticket options in the techie media support center.

  49. 5 years, 4 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

For sure, you can give it a try, they can roll back again if you land up in a situation you can’t recover from.
