New Custom Types Plugin from SiteOrigin?

By Harvey, 9 years ago. Last reply by Andrew Misplon, 8 years ago.

Care to venture an availability window? Talk about features?

I’ve started using Types with its custom post types, fields, and taxonomies and making good progress. However if SiteOrigin has something in mind that is built to integrate with PageBuilder, I could work on something else while awaiting its arrival.

Hi, I Work Here

Hi Harvey

I have a version of this working, but I’m not satisfied with the available features, so I’m going to try beef things before actually releasing it. At the moment, it allows you to create custom post type templates using Page Builder. Any widgets that you mark as fields, will just show up in meta boxes on that post type.

It still needs a lot of work, but I’d be more than happy to send you a copy to take a look at.

Greg,

I’m hesitant to volunteer — I’m a newbie at WP. Not sure whether I’ll be a help. Custom posts, custom fields, custom taxonomies are topics I’m working hard at getting my mind around. The theory is straightforward — putting it into practice is more challenging. I started with the plugin Types and found it easy to use, then I discovered that it only solved half the problem. Putting the custom posts and fields on pages requires buying their Toolset. Quite disappointing.

You tell me whether you’re far enough along that a WP neophyte can provide useful input. If so, I’m willing to take a stab.

Hi Harvey

I’d actually rather send out copies once I’m happier with the feature set in the plugin. For now, if you let me know what you as a WP neophyte would like see in a plugin like this, I’d be glad to try get those features in the final plugin.

Works for me. I’ll continue with Types for a bit and tell you what I find useful there.

Perfect, I’d be interested to hear what you find there.

I suspect you're aware of the following note from an email about WP 4.4: *"Term
Metadata *— Taxonomy term metadata is now included
<https://make.wordpress.org/core/2015/09/04/taxonomy-term-metadata-proposal/>
in WordPress 4.4. If you’ve already been using a plugin to implement term metadata, you should read this post
<https://make.wordpress.org/core/2015/09/22/preparing-your-plugins-and-your-client-sites-for-termmeta/>
on how to prepare. Also, the underlying WP_Term class improves caching when working with terms. (#14162 <https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/14162>)"

I confess I haven't been working with Types after all, so have nothing to report. Recently I've focused on the content of my site, rather than its structure. How's your project on custom post types going?

Hi, I Work Here

Hi Harvey

Thanks for reaching out. We have a beta version of the plugin ready here:

https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/so-cpt-builder.zip

The GitHub page for the plugin is here: https://github.com/siteorigin/so-cpt-builder.

You can download the ZIP from the first link and install via Plugins > Add New: Upload ZIP. Being in beta the plugin shouldn’t be used on live sites but we’d appreciate any feedback if you have a moment to test.

Thanks.

Hi Andrew,

Looking for the best way to get Page Builder working with custom post types, I’ve installed the beta CPT builder.
But I don’t see it anywhere. Not in the Page Builder settings, Page Builder layout or widgets…
Does it looks like it’s not working or am I missing something?

(just installed 4.4 before)

Kind Regards, Antoinette

Hi, I Work Here

Hi Antoinette

Unfortunately we aren’t actively supporting the custom post type builder yet. We’ll only be able to start doing this after we officially release it. We also don’t recommend using it on any production websites until it’s released. If you’re happy to brave this plugin on your own, you just need to navigate to ToolsCustom Post Type Builder.

A bug in SiteOrigin Custom Post Type Builder?

I activated it in the Vantage theme and then discovered ta page that had previously worked no longer did. On the page a Google Map produced by the SO Google Maps widget disappeared. Along with it an image specially configured by the Draw Attention plugin and invoked by a shortcode also disappeared. When I deactiviated the SO CPT Builder plugin, the Google Map and the Draw Attention image both reappeared on the page.

Hi, I Work Here

Hi Harvey

Please, could you send a list of the plugins you had activated when the issue occurred. We’ll use the list to try duplicate the problem.

Thanks

11. 8 years, 8 months ago Harvey

I can do that. Another possibility is for me to duplicate my development site on the Web, confirm that I can reproduce the problem there, and then send you the credentials to sign in. Would that be more effective from your point of view?

If you don’t mind, yes, that would be very helpful.

Just Checking, are you still working on SiteOrigin Custom Post Type Builder?

Hi, I Work Here

Hi DoctorMike :) Great to hear from you. It isn’t officially ready for production environments but, if you’d like to test it out we’d appreciate any feedback you may have:

Hi,
i try to use your Custom Post Type Builder add-on.
The plugin is installed correctly, and it seems to work, but when click on any tabs appear the charging icon to infinity and nothing is done.
I know that there is no support because it is still under development, but you can understand what it is?
There are minimum requirements for this add-on?

Thanks

Hi, I Work Here

Hi jobtelsel

Thanks for your interest. We landed up re-writing the CPT plugin more than once. The final result is now packaged with SiteOrigin Premium, our new premium addon plugin. You can find details of that offering here:

Download: SiteOrigin Premium

And for a look into what the CPT offers, perhaps, check out the docs here: Page: Custom Post Type Builder.
