Multiple categories in Post Query Taxonomy

I’m trying to set up a school website and need to show posts in two categories:
e.g. lower-school AND events, i.e. not show a lower-school post unless it’s also in events
I’ve already tried & and + but no luck. Is there a way to show a post that’s only in BOTH categories?

    This actually looks to be a bug. Thanks for letting us know about this. I’ve logged this as a bug in our issue tracker. We’ll investigate this as soon as possible and try come up with a fix.

    I’ve “cheated” for the time being using sub categories but that’s only a work-around as I’m effectively having to create duplicate categories that way.
