I am rather hopeful that I can set a different page as a home page instead of home slider if i enable it.
Can this be done without losing my current home page if i do enable it?

Apologies for the delay.
Each page has a Page Slider drop down menu in the right column. That drop down can access any sliders you’ve created within Meta Slider. Similarly, you can set any page as your home page without losing data.
