Am I stupid and DENSE or …

I simply want to follow along with your tutorial with the “Baking” theme that is on Youtube. But I can’t find the promised Home Page under Appearance in the dashboard. Supposedly ALL SiteOrigin themes have them.

Supposedly there is an On/Off button, [really] can’t find that either!

I thought this was supposed to be easy? I’m screaming at the cpu… as if its to blame. LOL

Thanks in Advance!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi :)

Although Polestar is listed on the SiteOrigin themes page it is authored by Puro. It doesn’t have the AppearanceHome Page shortcut. However, it’s just a shortcut, here is how to get to the same place.

Go to Pages, create a new page, call it Home. Now go to SettingsReading and assign your new home page as the Static home for the site. Next, go back to Pages, edit the home page and click the Page Builder tab. At this point you’re in the same position as the tutorial.

Finally, when editing your home page under Pages, locate the Page Settings metabox on the right and set Page Layout to No Sidebar, disable the Page Title checkbox and disable the Header Margin checkbox.

    Hope that helps :)

The method I’ve described above for creating a home page and then assigning it via Settings > Reading is applicable to all WordPress themes, SiteOrigin ones too.

    Hi, I Work Here

For sure. The steps above should be all that’s required. Let us know if you run into a further challenge :) Cheers for now.

    Your solution worked well enough!

Home page must be “published” for it to kick into your process.

PS: A huge boon to a lot of folks, I know I’ve asked the people at wordpress.org <http://wordpress.org/>, is to increase the contrast of the gray panels in the work areas of the dashboard. The two plugins meant to fix this don’t.

Create a plug in that address’s this lack on contrast and sell it for $2.99! I’d buy it as well as thousands of others and I’m damn near homeless. [Don’t get greedy and make it part of the premium package][ you can change many color “themes” of the Admin and no one offers as well a change of the background areas? Come ON!] My eyes are 63 years old on a calibrated 27 Cinema display. There are folks older than I with cataracts for goodness sakes! The man who responded to my question said he had em. I won’t argue. Who ever made this “contrast” decision should be taken behind the digital wood shed and shown some sense! With a big fat digital stick! Well not too big.

There is a “function” that creates the need for design!

    Sincerely,
    Carl

I would like a “free” theme from Page Builder that has a home page option under Appearance. Is this possible?

Honestly, I want a blank theme to which I can do anything I want. At the moment it doesn’t seem remotely possible.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Carl :)

Glad to hear you’ve been making progress. Indeed, unless you’re using the Preview button, pages do need to published to view them.

Here is a plugin that adjusts contrast in the WordPress admin. I haven’t tried it but did a quick search after reading your reply. Perhaps give it a go: https://wordpress.org/plugins/fix-admin-contrast/.

At the moment, I don’t know of a theme that offers a completely blank slate for Page Builder, sorry.

The Appearance > Home Page shortcut is the same as setting a static home page. If you have any follow-up questions in that regard, please let me know. We’ve dropped it from our newest themes to avoid confusion.

SiteOrigin Corp is our latest theme, still lots of new features on the way and being actively developed. https://wordpress.org/themes/siteorigin-corp/.

    Hi, I Work Here

Did you perhaps take a look at the Page Settings meta box in Polestar I mentioned? You can set the Page Layout to No Sidebar, disable the footer widgets, disable the page title, disable the header bottom margin. What you’re left with is a blank slate, in which you can do anything you’d like in Page Builder.

    Good luck :)

Again, Thanks for the prompt feedback!!!!!

Is there anyway to get the theme used for your "Beautifully Baked" theme tutorial? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpUDxQg4siE <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpUDxQg4siE>….with images? [how can there not be? :-) ]

Your recommended plugin is one I tried and found not much happiness with. Hint: you make a plugin that sets things right? I’m not smart enough.

PS: I have moved over to Corp theme. My input, I’d drop that “made with Love” in the copyright line! That definitely generates a “Gag me with a spoon!” response with me.

    Sincerely,
    Carl
