I followed the instructions I found here:

but it is not working.
I added a CSS to the slide and added this to the Custom CSS:
.metaslider .mainslider {
background: transparent !important;
}
but it did not work.
Do you have any clue how to solve this?

Thanks for reaching out.
The tutorial you mentioned covers the layering method of adding an image to the caption field. In order to see the main slider image behind the layer the layer image would need to be a PNG with a transparent background.
If you can perhaps provide further information on what about the tutorial you couldn’t get working we could help out further.

At first it did not work because I had the slider on by the Theme Settings slider selector. I believe Vantage puts the slider on the Header, correct?
When I moved the slider to the body of the homepage everything worked just fine.

Sure.
The Vantage page slider get’s inserted after the header and before the body content. All the page slider does is insert the Meta Slider using PHP in the same way the slider would be inserted using the Meta Slider widget or shortcode. There shouldn’t be any difference in rendering when it comes to layering.
