Hi Guys!
Firstly Well Done on an Amazing theme – Vantage!
We are very proud that it’s home grown….in Cape Town! ;-)
I’m helping my friend Linda (who purchased Vantage theme) put her website together.
For both of us it’s a first! ;-)
The Meta Slider on stretch full width has it’s issues with cropping images (It seems to be a common complaint on the thread…) Have there been any new adjustments made to help with this issue?
Linda does not want padding around the images – it must be full width.
I realise why it is a problem with all the varying screen sizes available particularly when it comes to a 27 inch screen!
I looked at a website (http://emilycopp.com/) – I found the address of on one of the threads (https://siteorigin.com/thread/meta-slider-image-quality-is-terrible/) and those slider images seem to be working very well now?
What was the solution here… Can you please help identify?
Also, should I use the plugin that was recommended for image quality enhancement in that thread… is it still relevant?? (that post was almost a year ago)
Thanks for your help in advance!
Vivienne
Hi Viv
Thanks for your support :)
Full width is very tricky. Yes, you can definitely still use the image quality plugin to push images back up to 100%.
http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-resized-image-quality/
The challenges faced are normal full width challenges, so no changes have been made. Here are your two options:
Default Vantage Stretch:
That’s what we use here: http://demo.siteorigin.com/vantage/. It will maintain the exact height of your slider, no matter the screen width. This does cause a part of your image to be lost as the screen expands. This happens to maintain aspect ratio.
Meta Slider Full Width:
That’s what’s being used here: http://emilycopp.com/. Turn off the Vantage stretch option from Appearance > Theme Settings > Home > Stretch Home Slider. Then go to Meta Slider > Advanced tab on the right > 100% width. Meta Slider will now ignore your height setting for the slider and naturally expand the image height as it expands the width. No more height control but you don’t lose any part of your image.
Give the two different methods a try and see how you come along.
Our original tutorial is here: https://siteorigin.com/vantage-documentation/getting-started/slider/.
Thanks so much for your prompt response Andrew!
I will try out the options and see how it turns out…
Have a great day ;-)
Viv
For sure. Let us know how you come along.
Good morning Andrew
I have added the WP Plugin for Image quailty as suggested.
Under Settings the Image Quality shows JPEG Quality at 90% Compression.
Do I need to adjust this slider or has it already automatically adjusted with the Plugin?
Please advise.
Thanks!
Viv
It’s up to you where you want to set the JPG compression level. I believe 80% is default so 90% is an improvement. Try testing with that.
Thanks for clarifying that Andrew, I was a bit confused….
My logic was 100% = fully compressed.
So 100% = no compression. ;-)
Have a great evening!
Viv
PS Now to sort out the slder images with the options you gave me a while back…!
Good luck, hope it goes well :)
Hi Andrew
Just to let you know I have gone with the Default Vantage Stretch Slider – thanks for all your help!
Have a great weekend! ;)
Sounds good :)
You too!
