I’m seeing a few issues with the navbar in the Vantage theme:
the menu items in the navbar are not centered If I alter the “Menu Item Vertical Padding” in Customization it only seems to increase the padding at the top of the navbar.
the background color on hover only goes top to bottom on the home page menu item, and not the others.
The menu does not change when view on a phone – I thought this was a responsive theme?

Are these shortcomings of the free version? I’d be open to buying the paid version if I can be sure these issues are addressed.

The menu items can only be as small as search button menu. You’ll need to either use CSS to reduce the size of the search menu item or hide the search in the menu. Unfortunately, this is beyond the scope of the support we’re able to offer on our free forums. There is a fair amount of custom work involved.

You need to enable the mobile menu. Please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceCustomize, Theme SettingsNavigation and tick Mobile Menu.
