Masthead with Layout Builder issue at top right

Hi

I’ve been trying to use the Layout Builder in my masthead (Vantage Child)and am having issues with the top right widget if two widgets are included in that column.

I have screenshots but can’t figure out how to upload here and my site isn’t live so I’ll try to explain, can email them if you like.

In my masthead I have only the layout builder widget with one row, three columns – logo image (column 1), text (column 2), text and SiteOrigin social media buttons (column 3).

When I make the background of both widgets in column 3 blue, the right hand side of the top text widget is indented inwards while the social media widget is longer.

I have tried with same results:

– full width, stretched, standard
– adding a new blank column 4 (column 3 still has the indent)
– adding a new column 4 and putting in two more widgets (both columns show the indent)
– adding a new row with same widgets (both rows show the indent)
– changing the widths of the widgets by adding more text and playing with the column width (the bottom widget just stays proportionately longer than the top)
– trying different types of widgets in column 3 and new column 4
– playing with other settings in the theme customize section.

The only format where the widgets are the same width is if I place them in column 1, therefore I’m assuming it is a layout builder problem rather than some hidden settings or CSS on the widgets themselves.

Any ideas appreciated (obviously I’m aware I can simply alter the layout so there aren’t multiple widgets in a column!) Perhaps there is a way of setting the background for a whole column to try out?

Second more minor issue/comment- one way I tried to fix this was to add an embedded layout builder widget in the third column. The widget added fine but the embedded layout builder doesn’t work.

Cheers

Elisa

    Hi Elisa,

Can you please send me a copy of the screenshots? You’ll need to upload them to vyv.me or imgur.com as the forum doesn’t support direct attachments.

Also, would it be possible for you to send me an export for this widget? To do this open up the page with the widget and click layout. Then click import / export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as teknik.io.

    Hi Alex

Thanks for replying and thanks also for this great service you have here!

I have actually moved the widgets into a single row now so this isn’t a crucial problem for me any more, although I would be interested to know if the problem is at my end or yours! I moved it back to how it was to demonstrate here https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15593629/layout-23112016.json.

    I’ve uploaded 5 screenshots to http://imgur.com/a/Gopo7.

(I haven’t shared files like this before so hope you can access them okay.)

The screenshots show the moving around of the text widget (Call…) and the share-button widget within layout builder in the masthead. Various positions (different columns and the row below) all still resulted in the upper widget having a gap to the right.
The screenshot with the red area is where I added new widgets with red background, in case I had weird CSS hiding on the original two but regardless the gap still occurred and for both columns.

    Cheers
    Elisa

    Hi Elisa,

I can’t seem to replicate the issue you’ve described with the layout provided, sorry mate. :(

If you have an online version of the issue I should be able to work out why this is happening but obviously, you’re working locally so that’s likely not a possibility at this stage.

Oh, and to clarify, I can access that imgur gallery without issue.
