SiteOrigin Team,

Me again! (hope it’s not getting annoying)

We want to translate our website: www.rabita.mx to three other languages (English, Chinese and German). We have the info already translated.

Searching through the support forum we found that we can do this via 2 plugins:
– PolyLang
– wpml

This will translate the main content but we did not find anything about the footer/header content so we figured we need to do it manually, make the subdomains and clone all the posts/pages on the new permalinks. (What is your intake on this method?)

So we searched further and found people having issues cloning the content from page builder.

What would be the best way to do the cloning without loosing any info ie.having an exactly same site under a subdomain so then we can manually edit the content and replace it.

Thanks in advance!

(While we are here, what is the best way to do a backup that could be easily retored)

J

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi J

    No problem, fire away.

    Translations

PolyLang or qTranslate X are both good free options.
WPML is the way to go for a premium plugin.

All the above options have their own way of translating widgets. That’s how you would translate the header and footer widgets. The footer copyright text will require a little work around but I can help with that when you get to that part.

Using one of the above plugins you shouldn’t need to duplicate the site. However if you ever do need to move your site, use Duplicator, it works well with Page Builder.

    Backups

Both these options are worth a look:

    Duplicator:

    VaultPress:

    Andrew,

    thanks for the response.
    Best Support ever.

Im thinking it is better to duplicate the whole site to a subdomain i.e. http://www.rabita.mx/en for the english version since it will give us full control over the looks and functionality whilst doing it with a plugin will require some other mods. We are translating everything manually and deleting/adding some content per language and the site won't be updated on a daily basis.

What do you thing about this? Is it the correct way of doing it?

    Hi, I Work Here

Sure, there is no problem doing it this way, it’s just a little more management overhead down the line like updating Vantage on two sites etc. Doesn’t sound like that will be a problem for you and you will get extra freedom of customising each lang site to be a little different.

For this once off move Duplicator is the way to go. They have a big documentation section that will hopefully help.
