Mailchimp top bar plugin interferes with website’s sticky menu

Hello,

I’ve created a website using the vantage theme. It was really simple and intuitive, and I could find on this forum the answers to almost all of my questions so far. Thanks!!!

There’s one thing that I still could not resolve, which is a conflict with Mailchimp top bar plugin. I want just a simple menu at the top of the page, so under Masthead Layout I selected Logo in Menu, and then selected Sticky Menu. This gives me what I want, namely a simple menu that is always at the top of the page, even when users scroll down. Now, I also want to have at the top of the page an option to join my mailing list, which is managed on Mailchimp. So I installed the Mailchimp top bar plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/mailchimp-top-bar) and this created another line above the website’s menu which enables people to join the mailing list. But now, if I scroll down, the website’s main menu disappears and does not stick to the top of the page, and only the Mailchimp bar is there.

So what should I do in order to have the website’s menu stick to the top and always be seen even when the Mailchimp top bar is there? Another thing that could make the appearance and behavior when scrolling even better is if there is a way to have the Mailchimp element be integrated into my menu and not appear as another object above the menu.

Many Thanks,

Yair

    Hi Yair

Thanks for your feedback. I’ll mention this to the development team, they’ll most likely log a plugin conflict issue. Do you perhaps want to try another top bar plugin? I know that https://wordpress.org/plugins/top-bar/ works with Vantage.

Thanks Andrew for looking into this.

From a quick look at https://wordpress.org/plugins/top-bar I don’t think this will enable me to have a field there for joining my Mailchimp mailing list. If there is a way to do that, I would be glad to know how to. Alternatively, it would be great in case you could direct me to alternatives to https://wordpress.org/plugins/mailchimp-top-bar that put a top bar with an option to join the Mailchimp mailing list from there.

    Hi Yair

When I test the Mailchimp Top Bar plugin it stays above the Logo in Menu when sticky. They are both sticky. If you aren’t seeing this result, please, replicate the issue and send a link to your site, we’ll take a look.

    Thanks

I set both the main menu of my website on vantage and the MailChimp top bar as sticky. They appear on the top of the page, but then when I scroll down, the MailChimp top bar stays visible at the top of the screen, but the website’s main menu gets hidden behind the MailChimp top bar. You can see this behavior on the website I built: https://efratshokef.com

I saw the following thread regarding MailChimp top bar https://wordpress.org/support/topic/mc-top-bar-covers-menu-header which says (regarding another website with a similar problem, probably with a different theme): “Your site header that contains the menu and logo has a position set to “Absolute” which is the same as the top bar. So to fix this, you need to modify the theme header using CSS to give it a relative position and to also fix any position errors.”

Is there CSS code that could maybe similarly resolve the position of the main menu on vantage?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for the link.

    I’m not quite sure how we’d solve this using CSS. We could set the sticky menu to be “x” pixels from the top of the screen. The challenge is when the top bar is closed, the menu position will be incorrect. We’d need to use JavaScript to detect when the top bar has been closed/collapsed and then adjust the menu position back to top: 0;

Have you tried the Top Bar plugin I mentioned previously? You can insert the entire form code into the Message field. I tried it now using the form code at https://codepen.io/krismis/pen/yJQQZN and it worked.
