Mailchimp PopUP Code Issue

Hi, I’m using the Vantage theme with page builder and wanting to add the new GDPR approved Mailchimp popup form code to the footer.
After adding the code using an HTML widget in the footer and updating –it strips all hero images and/or banners off the pages!
Does anybody know how to use the code without it doing this? Thanking you in advance for any help with this.

    Hi Michele,

This sounds like a JavaScript issue is occurring after adding their code. I’m not 100% sure why this is happening so I really need to inspect the page you’ve added the code to. Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on?

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for getting back to me. It's definitely a JavaScript issue which I thought might be sorted by adding the code to the headers/footers plugin
I've used for the Addtocalender script but it still strips the hero images… Here's the URL: https://saraleehofrichter.com/

…and just in case you need it to play with –here's the mailchimp script:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="//
    downloads.mailchimp.com/js/signup-forms/popup/embed.js"
    data-dojo-config="usePlainJson: true, isDebug: false"></script><script type="text/javascript">require(["mojo/signup-forms/Loader"], function(L) {
    L.start({"baseUrl":"mc.us6.list-manage.com","uuid":"8a848b8c95043c1fa652825e3","lid":"17c994e61a"})
    })</script>

    Much gratitude

    Hi Michele,

That code looks fine to me. Can you please create a basic test page with a slider (so I can see the slider breaking to see if it’s related) and a custom HTML widget with that coded add to it?

    Hi Alex,

Test page created with slider and hero image — added the MC code to a sidebar HTML widget and it strips the hero image off…

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Michele,

The linked page is working without issue for me:

Can you please try replicating this issue in a different browser? If that doesn’t help, can you please send me the contents of your console? Please refer to this guide on how to access your browser console.

The popup works but the page is only displaying the slider –the hero image
    I added below is AWOL…?
If you check the HTML code you will see the hero image is on the page but not visible.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Michele,

The hero widget is present for me (it’s present in the above image – unless you added two sliders?). Can you please try using a different browser to see if this issue occurs for you in another browser?

    Hi Alex,

I have checked in Edge and it does the same thing –shows the slider and empty sidebar, with popup overlay.

The image you sent shows the slider and the empty sidebar (housing the mc code)… with popup overlay.
I don't see the hero image below the slider in your screenshot?

Mailchimp have set the script to not allow the popup to show again.
(only if your cache is clean will it show up again) –now this is when the hero image becomes visible again.

    Hi Michele,

Ah. Sorry, I wasn’t aware you had added a slider and a hero widget so I had presumed the slider was the hero widget – sorry about that! Hm. Okay so this is going to sound odd, but if you temporarily disable WooCommerce – does the hero widget appear?

Please note that we’re currently unable to process attachments. You’ll need to upload any screenshots to a third party image hosting site like Imgur or vgy.me and either link me to the image or embed it.

    Hi Alex,

Yep! disabling WooCommerce does the trick… BUT how to get them to work together?

Alex, out of curiosity I added the code to another clients site:
    https://warrenwilliamscoaching.com/
Here the North theme is active, no woocommerce is installed and it does the same thing?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Michele,

That’s odd. So WooCommerce is reporting a cookie issue when you add the MailChimp code – I suspect MailChimp, or WooCommerce, is overriding something used by the other script unintentionally. Does this issue happen if you use any MailChimp integration plugins rather than directly add the script? I ask as I would think they focus on better overall compatibility with WooComemrce that MailChimp might.

Regarding your other site, can you please show me a test page so I can inspect it for errors? Sorry about this!

    Hi Alex,

Thanks so much for your help.
Let me test one or two plugins and get back to you.

I will also create a test page on the other site and send you a link in a short while.

    Hey Alex,

OK, after checking a handful of 'mailchimp' and popup plugins, here's what
    I discovered…
    — most require a 'pro' version before you can add images or additional fields etc.
    — they require designing the popup from scratch if you decide to go 'pro'
    — they don't have the GDPR field integration that is necessary for maintaining compliance in the specific mailchimp mailing list (*most important aspect)

and now to the 2nd website where I have created a test page with a hero image top, slider and html widget center, another hero image bottom.
    Here's the test URL:
    https://warrenwilliamscoaching.com/wwc-mailchimp-popup-test/

Much gratitude for your help with getting this popup code to work.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Michele,

Unfortunately, at this stage there’s nothing more I can do to directly assist with this issue – the development team will need to look into this issue further. To confirm, are these the instructions you used to create your GDPR form? (I ask as we’ll need to set up a new form)

  16. 6 years, 3 months ago Michele Stohen

    Hi Alex,

Thank you so much for letting me know.

Yes, to using the instructions you hyperlinked with special attention to this sentence under *GDPR Fields*: *"GDPR fields are not compatible with embedded forms, form integrations, or MailChimp Subscribe."*

Thank you too for taking it a notch further with the dev team!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Michele,

I just went to log this, but before doing this I wanted to do one final test. Is the previously provided MailChimp code no longer valid? If not, can you please provide me with an updated version so I can log/include some more specific details?

  18. 6 years, 3 months ago Michele Stohen

Hi Alex, the code I sent is still valid –I've deleted the test page on
    Saralee's site though.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Michele,

Huh. That’s odd. I can’t seem to replicate this issue anymore. Can you please link me to a test page on your website with this issue again? Also, can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? (leave WooCommerce and any plugin you have installed to add the MailChimp embed code too )You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

Maybe you can work with the test page that's still active on the 2nd site I sent you…

I have used the SiteOrigin North theme on this website and Vantage on
    Saralee's site.

Here's what I sent over previously:

    Me again Alex,

Thinking it's important that you know the different options I have tried for embedding this code…

    1) at the bottom of a regular page using the 'text' editing tab
    2) in the default footer widget area
    3) in the default sidebar widget area
    4) using an html widget in a row using SiteOrigin page builder options
    5) using a footer/header code plugin and adding it to the footer section

    Hope this is helpful :)

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Michele,

Ah, sorry – my mistake (I had forgotten about that page). Just to confirm though, did you try the plugin conflict test?

  23. 6 years, 3 months ago Michele Stohen

Hi Alex, no problem –I'm busy in studio doing video edits most of the day but will get to the plugin testing later tonight and let you know.

  24. 6 years, 2 months ago Michele Stohen

    Hi Alex,

Circling back to apologize for not being able to reply sooner –it's been a bit crazy my side.

In the meantime I have discovered that there is a definite conflict with the Site Origin Page Builder and Wordfence.

If there is any type of embed code for an email client or a google document etc. in a 'SiteOrigin Editor' widget and you try to edit something in the widget it comes up with a full white screen showing a time/date stamp….

Later this week I will build a test site to check the other issue.

    Regards, Michele

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Michele,

    That’s fine mate.

The date outputting when you open a widget is a common sign that Wordfence, for whatever reason, has incorrectly flagged the request. To resolve this please navigate to WP AdminWordfenceTools and open the Live Traffic tab. Filter by Blocked by Firewall and search the request you just made, it’ll be associated with your user account and the parm will start with body: instance=%7B%22frames%22%3A%5B%7B%22content Click Whitelist param from Firewall.

    Brilliant! thank you.
