Lost my on-hover menus?

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me here. I maintain a very simple website for my artist building, which I only update once a year as we get ready for an annual event. The event didn’t happen in ’20 or ’21, which means I’m looking at the site for the first time in almost 3 years and I can’t remember how this worked. I am not a web designer, and am quite a novice; I’m just the person in the building willing and able to make and maintain a basic wordpress site.

The first thing I did when I came to do this year’s edits was update WordPress and the Theme – Vantage – to their newest versions. Everything looks good still except that I’ve lost my hover-over menus.

We have a static page as our home page, with a single Menu at the top listing four Pages.
It used to be that hovering over the menu items popped up a drop-down list, but now that feature is gone. The links to the four pages still work correctly.

see: madoysterstudios.org

The landing page is a static page madoysterstudios.org/artists
The sidebar lists all the artist pages, but it used to be that hovering over ARTISTS on the menu bar also created a drop-down list, which I think I remember having edit manually separately from the sidebar list that simply lists active pages. The MEDIA item on the header navigates to a /media but I used to have a list of the media headers in a dropdown that allowed visitors to jump ahead to a particular section on that page that interested them.

Can anyone tell me / remind me how to set up those hover-over drop-downs again?

thank you!

(Since posting this question I changed what our landing page is. Nothing about the question changes, it just doesn’t line up with what the above says exactly)

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi, thanks for reaching out.

Head over to AppearanceMenus. Use the small drop-down, select field to choose your main menu. Once editing the menu assigned to the theme’s main menu location, you can add links or pages and drag them a level deep to create a drop-down.

Oh, yes! Thank you Andrew. I had forgotten about nesting menus. Easy-peasy, now that you remind me.
This might be a new question, but maybe it’s easy, too- I have a long list in the drop down, and only the first 1/3 or so appear on the screen, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to scroll down through them. It’s also awkward. I’ve seen menus that tier out in stages when they get to the end of how many fit on a screen. Is that possible, or do I need to make “Artists A – K” etc.? That feels less ideal, since different screen sizes will fit different amount of items.

If this is more properly a new question I’m fine to post it as one.
    thanks again!

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the update; I’m glad to hear you’re making progress.

Using Vantage, you could perhaps restructure your menus to avoid your described issue. Alternatively, a plugin like Max Mega Menu allows for mega menus.

UberMenu is a popular commercial option. Max Mega is free with a premium version.
